Thiago Alves will return to action this November in England, and will attempt to reverse a slide in recent results when he meets UFC newcomer Papy Abedi at UFC 138 in England.

The UFC has officially announced the bout, which will likely be a part of the night's main card airing via delay in the U.S. on Spike TV.

Alves has lost three of his last four fights, dropping decisions to the top two welterweights in the world in Georges St. Pierre and Jon Fitch and most recently getting upset by Rick Story at UFC 130 in May. His win in the stretch saw him put together on of his best all around fights in a decision victory over John Howard last December.

Abedi is a Congo-born Swede, who has competed his entire career throughout Europe. The 33-year-old has compiled a perfect 8-0 record ahead of his UFC debut, and he has finished five of his opponents with strikes while submitting two others and going to a decision just once.

UFC 138 takes place from the LG Arena in Birmingham, England on November 5, headlined by the first five-round non-title fight in UFC history between Chris Leben and Mark Munoz.

GREAT FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think I'm gonna get tickets for this event. Phone Post

Anyone think Alves may be on the chopping block?

He has lost 3 of his last 4 fights.

I think it depends on the fight? If it's exciting or if it blows. Personally win or lose I think they keep him for one more, look at Dan Hardy. Phone Post

It is hard to say. I mean he lost to GSP and Fitch in 2 out of those 3 losses. Alves cost himself the Story fight by not coming out the gate stronger and taking forever to readjust.

Alves will be a big step up in competition for Abedi so we shall see.

I agree with the exciting part but its clear that Dan Hardy gets extra chances to help grow the British market.

Lets keep in mind two of Alves losses were to Fitch and GSP.

He's a fighter everyone wants to see. He's not on the chopping block, thats dumb.

yes he is an amazing prospect, and clearly very skilled, but why are they thowing Abedi into the deep end so fast?

yea Alves has lost 3 of his last 4, but 2 of those losses were against the #1 and #2 welterweights, and the 3rd was the Story fight

Bizarre match up, the same as Dunham/Bailey.. just looks like a way to get both guys a win to get back on track

this one may backfire on them
