 Just picked up an everlast stand for my garage.  The speed bag portion of this stand is terrible.  It shakes a lot, and the bag gets hardly any rebound.  I'll try and see if there's any way to sturdy that side of it but as for right now it's pretty useless. 

Kind of sucks, I was hoping to get more into the speed bag.

 Hmmm, I put a 50lb sandbag on to of it and it seems to work a lot better.  I think i'll beef up the drum by putting some additional wood behind it and maybe switch out the swivel.

I also have some nylon tie down straps that I can potentially use to make it a little sturdier.

I guess all is not lost.

Sounds like you are on the right track. I had the same experience with the speed bag. I found some ideas on the internet that included adding weight and/or straps. If you Google it you may find some examples. I didn't keep mine long, though. Good luck.
