(facepalm)...for all the time we spent cleaning our HGs at home after about  400 rounds through the gun, and it's so simple.

At the range (or at your car right after) while the HG is still hot. put some Hoppe's on a Boresnake and run it through once while the debris and stuff is still not solidified to your barrel. Done. Do it each time and not wait to further avoid buildup.

Waiting until you get home and the crap is cold and doing it infrequently = mistake.

HTH.

Works for the bore, but don't forget about the action when you get home. I remember when my instructor took over for the sheriffs dept, he had guys who'd been carrying their sidearm for 9 years and didn't know how to take it apart to clean it! They'd been swabbing the bore out and calling it "clean", when the action had 9 years worth of crud in it.

You don't need to clean the bore. In fact the more you clean your barrel the more you wear it.

Remove the crud, make sure the extractor is clean, clean your mags and check the springs, replace fungible parts on a periodic basis, and keep it appropriately lubed.
