Eddie Alvarez may get his chance at revenge on Shinya Aoki yet.  Sherdog.com has learned that a clash between Bellator and Dream's respective lightweight champions Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki is being targeted for early 2012 in the Bellator Fighting Championships cage.

Good chance to for Eddie and Aoki.

He lost to due to perhaps inexperience last time or a stategic mistake. He has come into his own more now and would likely do much better this time.

However, it also a good chance for Aoki to silence his doubters (AGAIN) as he straight up schooled Eddie last time and contrary to popular belief, didnt need any help from the refs or get the td by flopping. He caught an Alvarez kick, clinched, Eddie made the mistake of throwing Aoki then and made another mistake of giving Aoki the chance to scramble on the ground and poof, tapout.

Aoki of course, gets NO credit for the fact that he submitted Eddie Alvrez in like a minute and with an absolutely stunning transition from being in sidemount under Eddie to the leg lock.

I do think this would be in Alvarez's favour this time as he is a more seasoned and PATIENT fighter now. However, he was still caught in a crucifix against karate guy Kikuno so....

They're saying it would be for the title too. Meaning five rounds of greatness.

This is exactly what im talking about.

Aoki clinches Eddie off a kick, gets the fight to the ground because of it, submits him seconds later and we still here the shit above contrary to historical record.

Magnum: can you name any other fight in Aoki's entire career in which he has failed to get the fight to the ground other than the Melendez fight? Even then he was able to get the fight to the ground though Gil was smart enough not to fully engage.

Aoki's tds are one of the most underated things in the game.

Lloyd gave me my bluename -  Wouldn't this ruin Bellator's whole concept of earning your title shot by running through the respective 155lb tournament (even though Aoki had some decent wins in DREAM)?

Aoki vs other Bellator LW's would be interesting as well.

But there has always been the concept that if you already beat a guy, the guy you beat always wants the chance to aveange it....

I would try to have Aoki enter the tournament; Aoki vs other Bellator LW's would still be interesting.

They would sidestep this by saying Aoki is a champion as well (DREAM LW Champion).

I wonder if Bellator moves to Spike if this would be the first main event.

They should not sacrifice their competitive structure for that match. Their format is what makes them unique. Phone Post

Let's be honest here guys. Aoki landed the ankle lock (the "Hail Mary" of all subs) on Alvarez. Alvarez is way more experienced now and won't be stupid enough to let that happen a 2nd time. Aoki will not be stupid to stand with him either. The end result will a boring fight where two guys don't want to engage the other. Phone Post

Advantages for Alvarez

1. The fight is in an American cage fight
2. Aoki is Japanese

Alvarez does not need anything else Phone Post

Actually it was a heelhook. Just sayin ... I'm sure that qualifies in the same or some other inferior category in your dictionary though.  :)
