In April Dana offered the opion that Nick Diaz could be making big money, could be fighting GSP, if only he would play the game.

“When I listen to Nick Diaz talk, you know, this kid’s talented, he’s well-rounded, I like his attitude and the way that he carries himself…to a point.

"He always crosses the line every time he gets out there and talks publicly and…he can be such a big star. This kid could be a big star if he would just calm down a little bit and not so be so angry with everybody."

"Nick has this talent and he talks about the big money and all the other things. He can make this big money. He can do that. He can be that guy. He could fight GSP. He could have all these opportunities. He’s got to tone it down a little bit, you know, and I don’t think that many people out there would disagree with me.

"I’m not asking Nick Diaz not to be Nick Diaz. I like Nick Diaz. I like the way he is and it’s part of the appeal of him, you know. But you gotta tone it down just a little bit…if we could get Nick to a point where he doesn’t cross the line and he doesn’t get so crazy all the time, he could be a big star. People like him. And people dislike him, too. That’s not a bad thing.”

Now Diaz is fighting GSP, but he is still apparently not playing the game, as reported by the Winnipeg Free Press.

Challenger Nick Diaz was a no-show Tuesday so welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre was left to plug their UFC 137 showdown on his own.

The UFC offered no reason for Diaz's absence in Toronto but the former Strikeforce champion is no fan of such media events.

St-Pierre said he did not know what was going on in Diaz's life, so he was not going to speculate on the California fighter's reasons for not joining him to hype their Oct. 29 fight in Las Vegas.

But the 30-year-old champion from Montreal says it's a little unfair in that he interrupted his training for the press tour.

Diaz's manager Cesar Gracie provides some detail.

"Nick is extremely happy about the opportunity to fight GSP, but old habits die hard."

"Nick is going to be there (a press conference held Wednesday in Las Vegas) tomorrow, and we'll go from there."

"Nick doesn't really do the conference calls with a guy he's fighting; he just never has. It's just not in his psyche. He's too busy training right now to answer any questions."

NO. Haha at you. Hes getting paid a shit load of money. Fighting is NOT his only responsibility. He is 100% obligated to attend this things. Hes an ungrateful little bitch and he keeps proving this over and over. You have to participate with the media. Its part of his JOB. The casual fan has to care about him. Not just the hardcore fans. This is what the media is for. More attention=more money! If he had any kind of intelligence he wouldnt ignore his responsibilites as a fighter/entertainer.

maybe it is a play. The presser was here in Canada. Diaz stands up GSP and the fans to get a little more under everybody's skin. Now more fans wanna see GSP smash the guy=more PPV.

ya think

Don't worry...GSP is going to roll his ass up and smoke him. He'll be sent back down ranks where he really belongs. Watch. I can't wait to see the pot-heads and losers go crazy on here lol.

all i have to say is that if you want to make the big money, you have to do some of the shit you don't like. you know... like press tours and shit. this fight sells itself, though.

Has he ever been busted with pot in the US? If that's on his record it'd be hard for him to get across the border anyway.. lol

Nick must be as close to being mentally retarded as one can possibly be without being classified as such. Guy bitches constantly about how he's not getting paid but doesn't go out there and work on the marketing aspect of his job which helps *gasp* him get paid. Go fucking figure.

You do realize that it isn't fair to GSP as GSP is taking time out of his schedule to do this when he could be training. Also, I would bet that this stuff is in his contract. You don't want to do it then don't sign the contract.

That being said, this is going to be a one sided beat down by GSP anyway. Phone Post

Hahaha - how retarded do you have to be to defend his actions? Unless he has a really, really good reason then it's inexcusable.

Dana barely misses any events and I'm sure he could find a million reasons to miss most of them. Dana and the rest are paying Diaz big money to show up to the fight promotion events.

If you defend Nick you either have never had a steady job, work at McDonald's, or have smoked yourself into retardation.

Beefcake the Mighty:

Yes, "because he doesn't tow the company line." When you work for a company, you don't get to choose which rules, requests, and policies you will follow, and which ones you won't. That's the way it is when you work for someone else. The fact is, he CANNOT arbitrarly decide to blow off UFC demends with impunity. Just like anyone else, he can either do what his boss tells him, or face consequences, or even risk losing his contract altogether. He may not mind the consequences, who knows. But it's not very smart to risk as much potential earnings as he's risking. A little humilty and personal responsibility = money.

Try to think like a grown-up rather than a middle schooler.

He's got a lot of hype behind him because hes been a pirahna in a goldfish bowl, as far as the UFC ww division goes, hes middle of the pack. Its not a question of if he can beat GSP (he doesnt have a chance) its more a question of if he can handle Fitch, Alves, Kos, Rumble, BJ etc, I see him going 3-2 against those guys at best, and thats being extremely optimistic.

Thank you sir..my thoughts exactly.

It's like the boss in your office calling a meeting and you blowing it off. It doesn't make you cool, or a badass, or anything like that. It makes you an irresponsible and disrespectful ass.
