Jake Ellenberger scored the biggest win of his career Saturday by knocking out former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields at UFC Fight Night 25 in New Orleans.

Ellenberger dropped Shields to his knees with a right knee in the Muay Thai clinch and then quickly capitalized by pouncing with left hands until the referee stepped in at 53 seconds.

Shields took an H-bomb, no way he gets KO'd, I think he'll win by sub in round 2.

I'm expecting 30-27(x3)for Shields but I wouldn't be surprised to see an Ellenberger KO/TKO.

I'm so tempted to take Ellenberger. Shields just always seems to get it done though, even when you analyse and can't see him winning, like against Hendo.

Could go either way - Shields is a tougher matchup for Ellenberger than Fitch would be due to Shields' guard passes and subs - but I'm favoring Ellenberger to win here. His power is sick and his boxing is improving.

Also his wrestling is improving. Ellenberger used to be a guy who had good TDs but whose defensive wrestling was suspect. But he didn't have much wrestling experience in college and has way more experienced with wrestling now than when he started out his career. Shields will have a very tough time getting this to the ground.

And even though Shields slightly outlanded GSP in terms of volume GSP definnitely outstruck Shields overall, and I think Ellenberger's standup with power included is superior to Shields' as well.

This isnt't the way KOs work. They're probabilistic - and Shields was as close to getting KOed as you can get (he was actually out for an instant). It was a borderline miracle he didn't get KOed by Hendo.

And Ellenberger is pretty much a welterweight Dan Henderson. Good wrestler with absolute monster power. Ellenberger absolutely has the power to KO Shields, the question is whether he will have the opportunity to land cleanly enough.

Doesn't really have much to do with the UFC being better than his previous competition if that's what you're implying. Shields' is very good but people didn't look closely at his record - Okami did more in their fight, and Jake barely, barely, *barely* survived the first couple minutes against Hendo.

But he fought pretty good against GSP, giving GSP his toughest fight in years.

It just so happens that Jake Ellenberger is the WW Dan Henderson and just like Hendo will KO guys brutal, with regularity. Ellenberger stylistically was one of the toughest matchups for Shields. I would take Shields over most WWs but I expected Ellenberger to win here (see above).

It's funny I see people saying stuff like Ellenberger is overhyped now, when most people are saying GSP would run over Ellenberger which is a joke. Ellenberger would be a scary fight for GSP.
