It was written by his PR guy... No big deal! Yay! 8-)

XFL champion Myron Dennis prepared for next title defense, big things in the future

One of the top prospects in the Southwest, Xtreme Fighting League light heavyweight champion Myron “The Future” Dennis (5-0) is gearing up to defend his title against the heavy-handed Bryan “The American Bully” Roberts on Sept. 23 in a feature bout at XFL: Rumble on the River 5 at the Riverspirit Casino in Tulsa, Okla.

Dennis is coming off of a resounding TKO win over “The Ultimate Fighter 8” reality show participant Ryan Lopez (11-12). He dispatched of his former teammate in under one minute, showing that the former collegiate football has plenty of mixed martial arts skill to go with his natural athleticism and toughness.

Against Roberts, Dennis faces arguably his most difficult test to date in an opponent with ten knockout wins to his credit. But the always game Dennis is never afraid to challenge himself on the feet, having competed in kickboxing against the likes of Randy “Boom Boom” Blake, a standout striker from Chuck Norris’s World Combat League.

“In a fight like this, you just pretty much got to go in there and fight smart,” said Dennis, a student at the Academy of Martial Arts in Oklahoma City. “You can’t go in and get in a brawl. You have to use more technique.”

In the unlikely event that Dennis has trouble on the feet, the Academy of Martial Arts product has a strong Brazilian Jiu Jitsu game that could give Roberts fits on the ground. A BJJ blue belt under AMA head coach Kentrick Coleman and the Renato Tavares Assocation, Dennis has been working at Tirey’s Training alongside world champions such as Xande Riberio, Rafael Lovato Jr., and Justin Rayder as they prepare for the prestigious Abu Dhabi Combat Club grappling tournament.

“You learn so much training with guys like that who know so much technique,” Dennis said. “They’re like high-powered training machines.”

As an XFL champion, Dennis hopes to follow in the footsteps of other XFL fighters that moved their way up to the sport’s highest stage, including UFC veterans Jake Rosholt, Daniel Roberts, and Shane Roller.

“I would like to follow in the footsteps of those guys and make it into the bigger leagues,” Dennis said. “The XFL is really helping me move my way up giving me tough opponents and allowing me to get better.”
