Good question.. I've never really thought about it before. I've been in a few amateur boxing matches but i was hoping to get more into mma later on. I didn't think it would take away my ammy boxing status Phone Post

I believe that is true. Check with your local ABA rep and find out for sure. I can remember going to an amatuer boxing tournament in Dallas and Ken Norton Jr. was wanting to compete and he was allowed to do so based upon the fact that he was a professional athlete even though it was in a non-combat sport (football).

if you don't say anything no one will ever know, that being said, fight open, or you are a coward

If you are in the US, I am pretty sure you cannot compete under USA boxing sanctioning as an amateur if you have competed as a professional in any combat sport.

You cannot compete in USA Boxing if you did pro MMA. I recall the form specifically asks this.

no captain fuck stick, fighting novice when you have a bunch of fights already makes you a coward, in the open division you might get put to sleep. since you have a bunch of fights already, fight in the open division

I'm not opposed to it. u may however have me wrong. I don't claim to be this great boxer. I spar with a lot of good Thai boxers and boxers and I am a boxing fan. I always thought it would be fun to try and improve on. What part of Iowa u close too? Phone Post

Damn I've lived in Iowa all my life and I dunno where That is haha. Must be far away. Yeah I understand where ur coming from the reason I started this thread is I wanted to compete in the golden gloves, open division of course. That was the only thing about fighting for no money that kinda sounding cool. Plus Im a bit tired of mma and thought boxing would be a nice change of pace for a while Phone Post

Think u should just tell the officals what you've done and see whst they say. My first ammy fight I lost a close decition two a guy to later find out he had been in 7 mhay Thai fights. I just think that ring experiance help him kick it.
Put everything on the table ;-) Phone Post

Does that count from grappling to striking as well? If you fight as a boxer, you can't enter amateur wrestling tournaments any more?
