Body Shots - Also when I'm at a bonfire I see souls or ghosts walking around or sometimes it looks like other people but they disappear.. Am I supposed to do something about that? Phone Post

i read they are other players. if they are black they are other players who will try and kill you or something.

Not around the bonfire. Black Phantom players can invade when you're alive. A warning will appear on the screen. Although, there are NPC black phantoms as well.

I'll be back on tonight, after wifey goes to bed. Dead burg is kicking my ass. Then again I went up and sounds like going down first might b the best approach. I'll go back and try that.

Game is seriously frustrating. Fun? Of course. But don't get comfortable. It seems like the minute I tell myself "oh I've got this" I die - often at the hands of a skeleton warrior no different than the dozens I slew before him.

And then I happily uncover a new area only to run right into a knight that chops me down with two swings of his sword...I mean, that was a sword, right? Anyhow, I guess that's what I get for trying to out fence the 'ol chap.

Gonna start back where I left off later. And that's the best you can do with this game. I'm convinced! Phone Post

Holy shit my buddy just gave me a hardback strategy guide for this game! No joke! They only made one shipment and they're selling online for like $80. Anyone interested call your game store to see if they have one. Phone Post

here is what Gamespot says about the human interaction;

"Like Demon's Souls, Dark Souls possesses a number of incredible online features that make you feel like one node on a giant web of identical worlds. You see the ghosts of other players on your travels, and they are less transparent the closer you are to a bonfire. These players don't exist in your world, but are more like echoes from a parallel kingdom that resonate with your own. You also encounter bloodstains that mark the deaths of other players; by activating one, you watch the player's ghost reenact the final seconds before death. These aren't just neat features that impart a sense of community, though they certainly do that. They also let players serve as silent, inadvertent guides to each other. By both living and dying, you might be another's quiet savior. It makes Dark Souls an unusual and wonderful contradiction: you feel remarkably alone in this frightening place, yet simultaneously part of a large multiverse where simply playing the game makes you part of a chorus of silent voices urging each other forward.

You can offer more direct assistance by creating helpful messages from a series of canned words and phrases and leaving them for other players to read, and you can heed advice others leave for you. And if you need extra help, you can summon a stranger to your world, or be summoned to another. Tackling a boss with one or three other players is a lot of fun, though there are other ways of assisting your fellow travelers. One way is to drop an item; left long enough, it will transform into a phantom and wander into someone else's game. Such phantoms leave behind precious items, though they must be vanquished before you can reap your reward. Of course, you might prefer antagonizing other players rather than assisting them. In that case, you can invade them as a black phantom. Just like in Demon's Souls, being invaded exponentially increases your tension level, because you have to worry not only about standard creatures, but also about another player hunting you down. "

Couple things from the strategy guide. Of the gifts you can pick from the beginning the master key is the only item that you cannot obtain from normal gameplay. The pendant is also very hard to acquire. Phone Post

is it possible to beat this game in less than 20 hours? i dont care about finding everything the game has to offer or leveling up to the max, i mean just playing through at a normal pace. i am really interested in playing, but there is NO way i will ever play a game that takes 80 hours to complete. no fucking way.

At the rate I'm going it's gonna take me a lot longer than 20 hours.. and i'm pretty sure I've missed a fuckload of stuff.. I'm constantly getting killed and having to go back haha

But you might be better at these types of games I don't know..

hmmm...dont know if its worth dropping $60 for it. i have wasted SO much money buying critically acclaimed games that i never finished. oblivion is one example...i can appreciate that its an awesome game, but i couldnt play more than maybe 10-12 hours before i got bored and gave up because it is just waaaaaaaaaay too fucking much content...i dont have the attention span or desire to spend hundreds of hours on a single player game.

the perfect single player game for me is something like ninja gaiden 2 or resident evil 4. short to moderate in length, constantly fun and challenging, minimal cutscenes and/or dialogue, minimal load times, minimal menus, high replayability factor, ability to play in short 20-30 min bursts and actually accomplish something

Aim for the first ones tail to cut it off. It'll have less attacks and you get the gargoyle axe. Both gargoyles are weak to spell attacks so use gold pine resin if you have it. Phone Post

I started over from the beginning because I skipped a lot of shit..

I beat the Asylum Demon thing pretty easily this time.. Haha

I picked everything up this time and went down towards the black smith guy.. now I'm in undead burg and I passed the part with the fireball throwing guys, but I keep dying now trying to fight the big guy with a sword when you go down some stairs.. It's right where the other guy rolls a barrel at you..

I'm gonna retry tomorrow but man this game was worth the 60.. I bought Rage at the same time and have only played it once.. Think I might return it.. Phone Post

Picked it up yesterday...and then remembered why I threw down my controller in disgust and never beat Demon's Souls. I think I'm just going to keep on using the beginning enemies as training dummies, so I can get my souls up (and level up), and actually become good at combat before venturing deep into the game.

That's cool man. But that's also subjective. I can't really get into a campaign if it's too short or shallow. I've got a pretty good attention span though, so I can understand that some games require too much dedication for some people.

Fuck it, might buy a 360 just to play this. I need something to stream videos to the TV anyway. Can you see the XBox Hard Disk on the network?

No it's a flashing red light. When I try to turn on it starts "whirring" like its booting up but then shuts down.
