Sanshou or sanda is simply the Chinese term for kumite or randori. Generally, sanshou refers to a standardized curriculum of martial arts training combined with sports wushu forms (taolu) to form a "complete martial art."

Effectively, sanshou is the Chinese version of kata, but interestingly looks to be almost a polar opposite to wushu. Sanshou alone is a reasonably well rounded mixed martial art with striking, clinching and grappling. The problem with sanshou in United States is that send show is often taught as part of a larger curriculum at either wushu academies. Often, publicized schools offer substandard training at best while the better schools languish due to lack of students and thus lack of funds.

Additionally, at least theoretically the base of sanshou is wushu which is quite interesting since virtually all the principles learned in wushu do not apply to sanshou. Sanshou is effective but the mostly useless techniques and bad habits of wushu must be unlearned.

The average Muay Thai school's focus on conditions and combat realism is a massive advantage over the average wushu academy. Phone Post

By the way neither of those men were doing kung fu or at least not any kung fu (with which i am familiar) as practiced in taolu. To be honest both men look like kickboxers to me. Phone Post

There are like a 1000 kung fu styles. Some produce effective fighters some don't.

If the kung fu fighter has taken a lot of the traditional aspects of any of the Chinese styles into practical aspects then essentially he is becoming a San shou fighter. San shou is a fantastic martial art (its a hybrid system) thy will be seen a lot more when higher numbers of Chinese
Fighters start comin over into North America and Europe. Phone Post

TBH its usually fighter vs fighter rather than art vs art. there will be kung fu guys capable of being kickboxers and viseversa.
