Literally a day I never thought I would see. Who knows if they will actually make it, but I booked my hotel for the Championship Game.

Texas Tech is gonna be a tough matchup stylistically this week, then they should crush Iowa State and end with Oklahoma at home the last game of the year.

I know most people are not believers because they aren't a traditional powerhouse but they have an unstoppable offense and an opportunistic defense that are ballhawks, leading the country in takeaways/turnover margin. Until they lose, I'm gonna keep livin the dream!

I think that teams that are not 'traditional powerhouses' are often underrated and teams that are 'traditional powerhouses' are often overrated. The media downplays this, then beats it's own drum about how they got it 'right' when the traditional powerhouses win. I think coaches and teams who win a championship are given the benefit of history far too often. Stoops, Saban, Tressel, etc. Their teams all were/are bumped up often based on past performance not on the current year's team and results.

For instance, anyone who thinks that Utah in 2008 doesn't have some legitimacy to claiming that they were the best team in the country is unobjective. They absolutely manhandled a team that was supposed to kill them (Alabama). A team that the eventual national champion stuggled to defeat in the SEC title game. Same with USC in 2003(?)

I think the west coast and midwest teams are underrated by the media because it is much easier to cover the east coast teams (from north to south).

Also, when both TCU and Boise qualified for a BCS game, instead of having some chance of shutting up the non-AQ schools they match them against each other claiming that is the 'matchup the fans most wanted to see.' The BCS was afraid that Boise/TCU would go 2-0. When not playing another non-AQ team, they non-AQ teams are 4-1 in BCS games. You tell me who is overrated.

Oklahoma was/is completely overrated this year. I could not figure out why everyone was so impressed with both FSU and OU after the game earlier this year. I though both looked slow and inept. Then, FSU loses three in a row and OU loses but barely drops.

Obviously, OSU is not a non-AQ team, but they are probably considered more like a Boise or TCU in that they have never been a 'top tier' team so they don't get the respect they deserve. Same with Stanford.

How can anyone who watched LSU-Alabam have Stanford still ranked beneath Alabama. Alabama's offense was completely inept, the coaching decisions by Saban were beyond explanation, their special teams were terrible. Everyone except Northwestern State (whoever that is) scored as many or more points against LSU as Alabama did. And as far as schedule and playing ranked teams go, does anyone really believe that Florida was the 12th best team in the country at any point this season? That was where they were ranked when the played Alabam, so Alabama is credited with beating the 'number 12 team in the country.' Where as Stanford is not credited with beating a ranked team in USC because USC is not 'officially' ranked because of sanctions.

It is ridiculous that a team that might not even win it's division, let alone conference, is talked about getting a rematch for the national title already. They were outplayed at home. They have no right to a second shot.

I know this is rambling, so what it boils down to is the inequity of the system is what bothers me. The rankings shouldn't even come out until week 8 or 9 at the earliest. I hope it is OSU and Boise in the title game and Boise wins it (sorry). It is the only thing I can really see forcing at least a 4 team playoff.

by the way, I am using SEC examples because they are currently the 'top dog.' Five years ago I would have been complaining about the big 10 although not as much. I feel like the gap between the traditional powerhouses and non-trad powerhouses has closed significantly in the last few years. Unfortunately, we can't truly ever figure it out because the NCAA and bowl system is so corrupt and unfair.

I'm in agreement with a lot of that, thePetester.

Hopefully Oklahoma State stays undefeated (as does Stanford, Boise State, and Houston) just to give a big F YOU to the traditional powers and throw a monkey wrench into the BCS.

That would be ideal, but it never seems to happen. For what it's worth, I will be rooting for OSU unless the play Boise or Houston for the BCS title.

I couldn't agree with you more Petester. It is absolutely absurd to have "preseason rankings" which feature only the traditional powers in the top spots, which is based on nothing but name value.

I think they shouldn't have the first rankings until 60% through the season, then you have a much better idea of who's the cream of the crop. Look at some of these shit "name" teams that were in the top 25 to start the season and now they aren't even ranked: Florida State, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida etc.

These preseason rankings REALLY fuck teams and give them no chance. Look at Houston, they were not ranked in the top 25 so they had NO shot to really make a bcs game let alone the national championship no matter if they went undefeated or not. Now what if they only had the first rankings this coming week, Houston would probably be ranked in the top 5 or 10 with a CHANCE to legitimately control their own destiny. Unless you are ranked high enough in the preseason, you have no chance to play in the National Championship game at the end of the year. This is extremely flawed IMHO

yeah, it is pathetic. just big business like anything else. The Paterno case is the final nail in the coffin to me. There is nothing amature or sporting about college football anymore. Big business plain and simple.

2 more. They have Iowa State on the road on Friday then home against Oklahoma on Dec 3. Both us and 0u will be playing for a shot to play in the national championship game if we can beat Iowa State first.

TG I actually thought about writing you this past Saturday to make sure you were ok. I know how much you love Okie State, and you know I am actually a fan of theirs as well. I was shocked they lost. SHOCKED.

The thing with OSU most people do not know is the guys they send to the league usually pan out to be at least good players if not great players. They have about 4 guys on the team this year that could be potential stars in the NFL. Blackmon is going to be a special WR in the NFL, I think even more so than Dez Bryant. Its looking like it will be Alabama vs LSU for the national title, and truthfully they are the two best teams in college football.

Obviously I am CRUSHED but there is still a little hope. EVERYTHING that needed to happen for us to stay relevant in the title picture did. With all of the teams losing this weekend, we are now an LSU over Arkansas (should happen) and Auburn over Alabama (not likely but anything is possible in a huge rivalry game) win from playing for the National Title (assuming we beat 0u on Dec 3). Ok State has a bye this week but everything should be cleared up this weekend anyway and if all goes right, we play 0u for a shot at the glass football.

Here is some food for thought:

There are currently 6 teams that have 1 loss: Alabama, Arkansas, Boise St., OSU, Stanford, and Virginia Tech. At least 1 (probably more) will lose in the next 2 weeks. But for now, let's compare the 6 schools and who they've beat.

Wins vs. Division 1 teams with a winning record
1. Oklahoma State (7)
2. Boise State (6)
3. Virginia Tech (5)
4. Stanford (4)
5. Alabama and Arkansas (3)

Road wins vs. Division 1 teams with a winning record
1. Oklahoma State (4)
2. Alabama, Boise St., and Virginia Tech (2)
5. Stanford (1)
6. Arkansas (0)

Wins vs. Division 1 teams with at least 7 wins
1. Oklahoma State (4)
2. Boise St. (3)
3. Alabama, Arkansas, and Virginia Tech (2)
6. Stanford (1)

Wins vs. teams in this weeks BCS Top 25
1. Oklahoma State (3)
2. Alabama and Arkansas (2)
4. Boise St. and Virginia Tech (1)
6. Stanford (0)
*Stanford does have a win over USC who would be in the BCS Top 25 if they weren't on probation

Winning % of Division 1 teams each school beat
1. Oklahoma State (60-48) 55.5%
2. Boise St. (51-44) 53.6%
3. Alabama and Virginia Tech (51-48) 51.5%
5. Arkansas (43-55) 43.8%
6. Stanford (46-65) 41.4%

Wins over teams with a losing record or Non-Division 1
1. Alabama and Arkansas (7)
3. Stanford (6)
4. Virginia Tech (5)
5. Boise St. and Oklahoma State (3)

It's unfortunate that so many schools are rewarded for playing such easy schedules because so many human voters are too lazy to do the research that it should take to cast such a meaningful vote.

The sad fact is that if all school names were removed from the equation and voters were only allowed to look at statistics, there is no doubt that Oklahoma State would easily be the best of this bunch. (which is exactly why OSU is tops amongst these 6 in the computer polls) Now, if there was just some way we could get the voters to open their eyes.

thePetester - TG - Losing battle man. Until voters stop drinking the SEC kool aid, it won't happen.

Why should they stop drinking it? The league has won the last 6 titles and is 7-0 in BCS title games. The SEC has a track record of winning and dominating in these games while the Big 12 has a track record or getting their asses kicked. People need to get over their jealously of SEC teams being better at football.

It's should be Alabama vs LSU again. They are the two best teams and it's the matchup that provides the most competitive game. Alabama vs LSU part 1 ended 9-6 in OT and against the 6 common opponents their scores have been almost identical. Everything they have done on the field proves they are about as evenly matched as two teams can get. No one else out there would be competitive in a title game. OSU should not get a title shot just because they have not played LSU yet. The BCS is supposed to match up the two BEST teams and everyone in the country knows those two teams are LSU and Alabama.

We had a rematch tonight and no one is crying about it. Wisconsin turned the tables on a Michigan State team that had already beaten them during the season and now they are going to the Rose Bowl because they won the rematch.
