Nurse turned her smart phone upside-down, no doubt to hide a gaming application or Facebook.  I hope he got the best free medical attention available.

Doctor ElAttrache is very well known amongst elite sports circles and is the current team Physician for the LA Dodgers, the Orthopaedic Consultant to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, the LA Kings, and the LA Lakers.  He also performed the surgery to reconstruct New England Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady’s knee in 2008.

 Hmmmmmmm

Does anyone know the details behind each of the choices for ACL surgery?

I was under the imression that most elite athletes opt for the cadaver graft?

Both patellar tendon and hamstring have to then be rehabbed not only for the ACL but for the part they cut out of your body for the graft.

What could POSSIBLY justify cutting out a piece of the greatest WW of all time's patellar tendon!?

Is it THAT much stronger to use than a dead person's ACL?

no way will he be the same fighter...  what differentiates him the most from other "wrestlers" is his explosive speed.  Now he'd still probably be technically better than any other fighter and just as strong but I doubt he can withstand a war which is what he'll have to do to compensate... the days of of him coming in and having a sparring session are over.

Who's gonna be the new WW king?

GSP?
Ellenberger?
Rory?
Fitch?
Condit?
Diaz?

Like George, I had this done myself. I had seen 2 sport specialists that recommended the Patellar and the same specialisst work on NHL players and such with one being a multi Stanley Cup holder. As I was active in martial arts and weight lifting this was the only option if I wanted to perform at my best. I looked into each, got second opinions and felt confident in choosing this option.

From best to least the repairs go as such:

1. Patellar
2. Hamstring
3. Cadevar Graft

The Patellar is the strongest and MOST recommended for those active in sports. This tendon reacts like the original tendon unlike the Hamstring that can stretch over time. The Cadevar Graft; that is not even a consideration and knowing others that have had it done, they should just eliminate it all together. To rely on HOPING it takes is not a risk I would want to take (because they all don't take and if over active you will be back to square one). The Patellar takes the longest to heal and the most painful however he will be back and it will perform exceptionally well. I had mine done in December 2006 and is stronger than my other. Being an elite athlete he may recover faster but he should not rush it. Mind you he will have the best sports specialists working on his recovery and doing full time so will see better results faster.

Just to clarify, the Patellar reacts just like the original ACL; perhaps even stronger. It won't stretch over time like the hamstring. The only down side is they are cutting into your knee to remove it and he, like myself, may loose slight feeling in that area. I was told it would come back but it didn't. He will be able to feel a slight indent where they removed it; no biggy.

I have extremely high hopes for GSP; good recovery George and we will see you back at the top before the end of 2012.
