Here's some from my Ipad that I think hold weight in this context:

LogMeIn- VM client that allows you to access data from remote computers (if used properly, could be a great way to create a data repository)

Underground - nuff said

Leafsnap - Take a picture of a plant leaf on white background & the app searches for the name of the plant based on it's physical characteristics.

Google Maps - Maps

Steepandcheap.com - app for an outdoor sports clearinghouse that sells stuff cheap.

Social Media - Linkedin/Facebook - If you use this stuff, it's a great way to communicate to a wide group of people

Star Walk - Take a picture of the stars & it tells you the constellations & a bunch of stuff you wish you knew

Finance Apps (bloomberg etc.)- Keep an eye out for the implosion

Personal productivity apps like PDF Reader, Excel emulator, word processor etc.

Survival manuals & books on PDF

Kindle with books loaded

Podcasts on survival, farming, energy efficiency, homesteading, food prep & storage etc.

Mind you, in the event of a "bad time" the network access for many of these applications will be lost. Many of them don't have much use if there's no access to the network. In this case, the applications will need to have a "standalone" function that's useful if you can't connect.

Also, understand how to load/sync stuff while not using Itunes/icloud. If you depend on Itunes for all of your content, you will be out of luck if the network goes down.

What I was looking for was more like recommended apps like leafsnap, sas survival manual, and other apps that are more informative than general things like social media and finance and productivity stuff. Phone Post
