Carwin is nowhere near the level of a title fight. Guy is a can crusher who gasses after one round

You're half right, Carwin needs two fights back to be a contender. As for 'gassing can crusher' Gonzaga was top 10 when Shane knocked him out, so was Mir. Shane presented the game plan on how to beat Brock - and 'gassed'.
He went back to the drawing board and totally changed his training. He came into the JDS fight (with 3 weeks notice) 25 pounds lighter than his fight weight with Brock. He fought two rounds with a shattered nose breathing through his mouth - which is impossible if you're conditioning isn't excellent. You might want to look at the fight again and see just who was caught in a submission at the final bell.

Dawggy - I hoped for Velasquez/Carwin, but this will suffice.
Not a good choice match-up. That is a HW title fight quality match when bith fighters are at their prime. Shane and Cain are two marketable names that need to be built back up after long lay offs. If they fight each other then that guarantees the lost of one HW contender. If they fight different people then they. Both can stay in the title hunt. If they fight each other both coming off a win then it's a number one contender match and a much bigger deal. Another great point to why the UFC knows what they're doing.

I know its just a theory but could the reason they arent doing Cain/Mir be that they have something else in mind for Mir?

Lesnar maybe?

Or is this about trying to get Mir and Cain both in teh mix for future title shots, Cain being the former champ and big with Latinos and Mir being Mir who is on a streak.

Kanyeisagayfish - Bigfoot hasn't earned the right to fight Cain. Mir should be fighting Cain and have Bigfoot fight Carwin when he returns. No offense carwin Phone Post
This coming from the guy begging to work for the UFC. Mir just beat big Nog in an exciting fashion. Cain just got KOed. Fighters on win streaks usually don't fight fighters coming off a loss. Fight is a perfect match-up. Phone Post
Cain just lost the title as Bigfoot is coming off a ko to someone who isn't even established yet. Cain lost to the #1 HW. Bigfoots biggest win is fedor? The same fedor who is 2-3 in his last 5 fights with wins over no-name, not even top 100 opponents? Get your shit straight son, Bigfoot is getting Cain probably based on timing alone because he sure as hell didn't earn it. Phone Post

sk8actr - I like Bigfoot/Carwin or even Mir. Maybe even Big Country?

Those are all very interesting matches for Bigfoot, and there are plenty more, yet they set him up with this ridiculous fight.

Shut the fuck up asshole, I'm getting tired of your bullshit MMA knowledge. You're talking about a former champion, and valued UG member, and by calling his opponents "cans" your fighter bashing Mir, Gonzaga, and every other fighter he's faced. Bannable offense IMO.

Carwin is a former champ?

Mir and Gonzaga are solid wins but both also fold any time they ever get hit in a fight.

The rest of Carwins record is laughable

I think that both Cain and Carwin have already lost to JDS, and Cain has a better chance if becoming champ again. Weed out the better contender and see what happens. As much as I like carwin, I just don't see him ever winning a title again. Phone Post
I think Carwin has the tools to be champ again. Thats besides the point. Carwin is coming off of two loses and, for Cain, to get a win over him doesn't make as big of a statement versus if they are both coming off of a win.

Carwin will fight someone who is working his way up or gatekeeper. He's valuable on a win streak, and of he loses then new someone just beat a former champ.

Cain/Carwin is just better for marketing if they both have wins. Difference between fighting to get to the title versus fighting to stay relevant in the division. Phone Post
My problem with carwin is his age. He doesn't have a long time to go as a fighter, IMO. Just give him velasquez before that fights turns out to be one that never happens. It's now or never for him, so bypass a gatekeeper and give him big fights. Phone Post

What flavor kool-Aid is Zuffa serving this month?
We're only drinking the kool-aid that Cormier is serving. The man said it himself.

Proteus The Invincible - That's a terrible fight. Bigfoot gets knocked out in the first round, so they give him an even tougher opponent. The fight makes very little sense.

I think it makes perfect sense. Why should Silva be given an easy pass?

I think maybe Mir didn't want to fight that early. I've noticed he always takes a few months off before he accepts a fight. Maybe it had nothing to do with who Mir is or isn't fighting and more to do with Ufc needing a big fight for Ufc 146. Really they might not even have a headliner for that card yet.

Jones is going to headline either 145 or 146. Which one Zuffa doesn't know. They are going to wait until after the Fox card to decide.

Oh and as for who is next for Mir. I could see him facing Werdum in June if Werdum beats Nelson. That way if he wins they could line him up next for the JDS/Reem winner.

What about Bigfoot makes you feel he doesn't deserve a fight with Cain? He's tough as hell with good boxing and a good ground game. This is no gimme fight for Cain.

P. S. apologies for the personal attack. You've always been pretty cool I just get carried away sometimes. Phone Post

I just feel that rankings should determine a fight. Cain has beaten several quality opponents and bigfoot has not. Im not stupid Im aware that bigfoot has a chance to win this fight but when you have other more established top 10 opponents that have established themselves and deserve to fight arguably the number 2 hw they should be given the fight. Hey, maybe mir is injured of has another fight lined up. What do I know. Im just a little shocked that they would set this fight up. Now with that being said, Im looking foward to the fight itself.

And dont worry about it its cool.

Both coming off losses, Bigfoot's biggest win is bigger than Cain's.

Good matchup, I got Cain.

Bigfoots biggest win is a DOCTORS STOPPAGE over a past-his-prime fedor. Cain's biggest is tko'ing the hw champion who nobody thought would happen after what he survived in the carwin fight.
