Many of us are curious what fighters *actually* weigh in the ring for their fights. I'd like to use this thread to compile what we know.

Post what you know, WITH SOURCE, and I'll add it to the OP. Keep in mind that even with sources, these are not necessarily gospel truth. The only weight that is truly, 100% confirmed is Vitor's 206 for the Johnson fight, as he was weighed and verified by Dana.

Note: Weights in grey are ones given in advance, earlier in fight week -- i.e. what they expected to weigh on fight night.

I would love to get reponses from the fighters who post here: Lauzon, McCall, etc, either with their own in-ring weights or that of training partners etc.

So, this first table: Only fighters' FIGHT NIGHT / IN-RING WEIGHTS

"GSP (170): 195lb (interview with Firahz)"

If that's the case, what about Fitch, Hardy, Alves, Kos, Hughes, Shields?

GSP looked smaller than Fitch, Hardy, maybe Shields too? Hard to tell with Alves since he's shorter, stockier...

Good question. Offhand I don't know of any interviews with those fighters or their trainers where their ring-weights were mentioned.

I should probably put a note for GSP that this was the Shields fight, and was supposed to be the heaviest he had ever been for a fight.

Anthony Johnson (185): 211lb (Dana White)

Anthony Johnson never made the 185. Reports are that he got down to 186 (unsubstantiated), so it should read:

Annthony Johnson (197): 211 lb (Dana White)

Im pretty sure Jeremy Horn posted on UG that Matt Hughes was never more then 185-190 and actual I think it was 185 he said.

It could have been a interview by Horn also but i think he stated it on thread like this a few years back.

He looked smaller than Kos too, at least Kos looked more muscular as he is a Mesomorph and GSP is an ectomorph.

Also Johnson was 230 before he started his cut for Hardy. This was two months out of course.

Excellent thread!!

I have always felt that the promotions should do a weigh in before walk outs and post that number during the broadcast. It is a CRITICAL number for sport fans to know!

GSP says his walk around weight is 195, not fight night weight. Source is every article he talks about fighting Silva. He wants his regular weight higher before he is comfortable at MW. Phone Post

Looks like Bisping does the same thing.  I didn't realize that he got that big between fights.

edit: Bisping at least makes weight and that fight was at MW. :)

A lot of GSP's weight is in his lower half.  He has large legs.

(205): 207 (Dana Vlog)

Do you know which fight this was? This was supposedly his fight night weight? That seems...unexpected.

"Ross Pearson did an interview after his first fight at featherweight and said he was 170 in the octagon. "

Thanks, good find.

Maybe this is part of the push for a superfight with Anderson? Would be great. I also noticed these "fight night" weights are in full gear, not just a pair of thin boxers like the real weigh in.

I am about 180-182 fight night for 170. Gotta step up my game I guess! Phone Post

NarlyPersianDude - by the way, regarding Anderson, you do realize he says himself, that when he fights at 205, he still cuts weight.

Just cause one time against Maia I am guessing he was that light, dont mean everytime. Cause he says himself that even at lhw, he has to cut weight. And Machida is now reported to 210, a week before his fight, and I remember you trying to convince everyone how much bigger Machida is Anderson, when I brought up the fact that Anderson and Machida are pretty much the same size.

In fact, Anderson looked very close in size, not as big but close, to Forrest Griffin, when they fought. Food for thought

Anderson walks around between 210-220, so yes, he had to cut weight to get to 205, but not nearly as much as Forrest had to.  If you look at the photos of Anderson and Forrest on the day of the weigh-in, you could see the difference.  Forrest looked very sucked in and Anderson did not.

" by the way, regarding Anderson, you do realize he says himself, that when he fights at 205, he still cuts weight."

Yes -- because walking around between fights he is fat, and he has to trim down a lot. It is unclear whether or not he meant he was cutting water weight (looking at how fat he was at the weighin, the lack of difference between his weighin appearance and fight night appearance, and the fact that he has not been heavy even at 185, I'm guessing no, he did not cut water weight, but of course this is speculation) . We have no idea what he weighed in the ring.

"Just cause one time against Maia I am guessing he was that light, dont mean everytime. Cause he says himself that even at lhw, he has to cut weight."

He weighed 194 a month from Maia, and he weighed IN at 182 against Leites. Everything else is speculation, even though I know it's important for you to believe that Anderson is sandbagging by fighting shrimps.

Of the two weights we KNOW of Anderson at 185, he was significantly lighter than both Vitor and Franklin, the other two middleweights whose fight night weights have been confirmed. Of course, it must be stressed again that in Anderson's case those are NOT fight night weights.

Please keep your arguments out of this thread, which is just for weights with ACTUAL SOURCES.

Already we can see that even as low as featherweight, the average difference between weigh-in and fight night weight is a minimum of 20lb.

They do this unofficially for boxing but not all the time, right?
