On Friday, Neer (32-10-1 MMA, 5-6 UFC) embarks on the second fight of his fourth stint in the UFC, and he's fighting one of the better pure strikers in the welterweight division. Why wouldn't Duane "Bang" Ludwig (22-11 MMA, 4-2 UFC) want to go toe-to-toe?

Not so fast

"I'm going in just trying to win however," Neer told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "I'm willing to stand up with him as long as he doesn't run from me. If he's going to hit and run from me, I'm going to take him down. If he wants to stand up and trade, I'm more than willing to trade."

You might not blame Ludwig for wanting to hit and run. The last guy to trade with Neer, Keith Wisniewski, ended up a bloody, cut-up mess after being hit with a boatload of elbows. By the end of the second round, it didn't matter if Wisniewski ran. There was too much blood, and the cageside doctor called off the fight and awarded Neer the win.

Bang by complete devastation on the feet. Neer is kidding himself if he thinks it is in any way a good idea to stand and bang with Ludwig. Glad he has a back up plan. Phone Post

This a perfectly acceptable co-main for a free card. I wouldn't be disappointed if this was the main event. If it were a PPV I would agree. Phone Post

This is a great action fight on the feet..

Neer is crazy if he thinks bang doesnt want to stand with him

Bang is a elite striker at 170, Maybe the most technical at 170 in mma.. Phone Post

I think Bang takes this one. But I believe Josh is sincere when he says this. I haven't seen all his fights, but everyone I have seen he is a war machine. Smart fight to put on the card IMHO. Fireworks assured. Phone Post

lol seriously? Who has this man fought that would make you consider him one of those most technical strikers at 170 in MMA??
He didn't use that technique too well with Daley, Miller, Griffin, Gomi, LOTS others and trust me - he ain't gonna be using it with Neer either. Neer is kickin Ludwig's ass this entire fight, most likely stopping it too!

Bang WAS one of the best technical strikers at one time. "beat" a prime Alex gong and knocked out Jens so bad he crawled out of the damn ring.

Just would have thought they would use it to push a younger guy. Dunham and Oliveira each have a fights next week on the prelims. Those are the type of guys Id want casual fans to see.

Duane is a great technical striker, but he's had the same problem his entire career.

He get's outmuscled by his opponents.

He has good natural power, but that ain't enough.

At this level, you gotta have that raw athletic strength, and Ludwig just don't have that.

Unless he can totally outclass this guy on the feet, or wear him down to a decision like he did against that TUF winner guy in his last fight, it'll be a struggle for him I reckon.

Having said that, I'm a long time Ludwig fan, and always rooting for him to win.

But being realistic, that's what I think, and that's why he'll never be beating the GSP's or Koschecks or Daley's of the diviision.

Agree with WarFrog 100%. Neer can stand all day, he has an iron chin. Also much respect to WarFrog, he's a local legend where I'm from.

Ludwig is a terror on his feet ... end of story. If you stand to long infront of him you will go to sleep.

The first time I really got a good view of how technical he is was after the Jonathan Goulet fight. Bang ended the fight with that single shot. It wasnt just the the punch.. but what he said after ... when he was interviewed in the ring and asked about it he said "He just came in a little wide with his hook" or something close to that anyhow. When a fighter explains a win in those kind of terms that translates into a true technical expert. He wasnt bragging on his awesome punch, he pointed out what enabled him to land his punch.
