***I posted this in the BJJ forum also, but figured some here might have experience with the subfloor***

-------------------

We are doing a mat upgrade at our school. We practice BJJ, MMA, and Judo. We are building a judo subfloor across our entire mat area. This is supposed to be great for taking falls. We've already ordered the foam blocks These pictures describe the floor:

We currently have wrestling mats. We are going to sell them and upgrade to the Flex-Roll Dollamur. My question is:

Considering that we have this awesome subfloor, is the 5/8" Flex-Roll sufficient? Or should we use 1"? This will cover about 2200 sq ft of mat, so there will be a pretty good cost difference to upping to 1".

By the way, we will soon have 3 large wrestling mats for sale.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Depends on what you're planning on doing. If you are going to be doing lots of high impact throws and takedowns like judo, then go to the 1 inch. However, if you're a BJJ/wrestling based club that will more focus on lower amplitude takedowns, the 5/8 is just fine.
