Every man deserves a chance at retribution. Former champions, more-so.

Bring him back.

caliphornia - Tim was exciting at first. But Not sure if I can ever forgive him for the many years of retaining his title by "fighting not to lose"

My god, I swear some of those fights were so bad they scarred my soul for life Phone Post
Don't think he was fighting not to lose. Roids are used for a reason. Phone Post
There was an jnterview at the end of his title reign where he actually said "i dont fight to win, i fight not to lose"

And did you not see the monson fight? That was arguably the worst fight in the history of title fights. And the only time that a red (big John) had to literally call time, stop the fight, and tell the fighters "look, this is a FIGHT. you have to FIGHT".

Not hating... I'm just sayin Phone Post

That's weird, I didn't think that fight was that bad. Arlovski/Sylvia III was way worse.

It's weird how so many people like Tim since he left the UFC and went downhill. Back when he was champ, or at least in the UFC, the forum almost universally seemed to hate him.

Maybe its the honesty in the new vids?

MPA - Granted his last fight, showed he did actually hit the gym to learn some advanced techniques, it may be too little to late.

He is much older and overweight.

He is, but being a heavyweight he gets away with it to some degree.

Heavyweights can still compete later than lighter weights, because they don't need to be fast in most heavyweight fights, and the lowered testosterone which comes in your late 30's isn't going to be such a factor as, at his size, he's always going to be strong anyhow; simply by virtue of nature.

He is, however, overweight; and by quite a bit. But that can be sorted out if he wants it bad enough

croy_00 - I think I have such fond memories of Tim as the first UFC fight I ever watched was when Randy came out of retirement to fight Tim. I was about 18 years old, and had just moved out of my parents place, where they never had cable so this was new to me.

It might have been Zuffa marketing, but the fight was billed as The Maniac was an unstoppable goliath, and Randy was an over the hill guy, who just wanted to show the world he wasn't used up, and still had some fight.

Since that night I haven't missed a UFC.
It was amazing

That was the single greatest fight I ever saw. I remember jumping up and screaming when Randy knocked him down with the first punch. For the next 25minutes as I watched the fight, I was hopping around and shadow boxing. I'm sure my neighbors could hear me yelling Phone Post

HAHA, if nothing else that's a great story!

Being a MAINEiac myself, I'd like to the Maniac back. Cool story, back in the day, when i was in h.s. from1993-96, there was a club in bangor, The Bounty Tavern or 'The Bounty', they had underage weekends, n big Tim Sylvia used to b the bouncer there. He was always a big Guy, n quite intimidating, n NO ONE fukd around AT ALL. i hung out w Tim all the time, i Was just a kid, a freshman, n he wasn't a superstar then, but aside from taking the random chick home once in a while, just showing up on a Friday nite, seeing Tim n his big smile there all the time was awesome. Super nice Guy, n always had a handshake n a cool story. There was hardly ever any fights n Tim always dismantled the random punks that tried. He held it down hard. I couldn't believe it when i saw him kicking ass a bit later. He is and will be a super nice Guy, hard working Mainer with a heart of gold n he deserves a shot ...cause if it was on the other foot...he'd help anyone. I think its awesome how me n my friends were on a first name basis with Tim for years @ the bounty. Good luck Tim. Jason buck. Howland Maine. Phone Post

Six Deuce Clothing, Owner
for later.
I can still remember when he was the UFC Heavyweight Champion, wearing his belt, and carrying tables by himself to set up for a small show in Des Moines, Iowa. Just a regular, humble dude IRL.

the UFC likes to give up an comers a match against a former UFC champ/legend such as Tito/Ken, Ace/Ken, Hughes/Gracie so why not put Tim in there with a HW up and comer, a Struve, Travis Browne, Einemo, etc?

Some of the comments on here must indicate people throwing shots in the dark and hoping to be right so they can look special IF Big Tim ever becomes successful again.

I mean come on Mir is fighting Velasquez probably for a title shot I'm sure, you mean to tell me Tim comes in and knocks him out? Give me a break, the Mir that absolutely sucked at striking broke his arm with no problem.

He can strike now, and Randy put him on his ass for crying out loud.

hope he works on leg strength & changes his style up. i'd like to see him fight in more of a thai style, with knees and leg kicks. not sure he's capable of that, but his major weakness was always footwork & legs imo. (top heavy)

Chimonos Revenge -
ufcman187 - I wouldn't pay to watch Tim headline a PPV. Just being honest. Last time I did fedore owned him.
I don't think Tim is asking to be a headliner.

He just wants back in. Give him a prelim or two, if he performs well he gets in the undercard. He's a recognizable name with a great history in the ufc.

I would like to see him come back

I can agree with that but who would you really match him up against? 1st 5 HW's I think of would be Gonzaga, Carwin, Big Country, Pat Barry, and Mark Hunt ( Honestly random names ) and I see him losing all of them. He may get Barry and Hunt due to reach, but if they connect... It's over. Dana said it best when he talked about Tim being the champ during the weakest time for heavy weights. I'de like to see him against an up and comer though
