Stickgrappler...just to say it again...really nice words about SB...
Would be great to write another article about shadow boxing. As you mentioned before...almost one year ago now.

May I use some of your stuff and translate it? Not just copying your stuff...just great ideas...
Of course I will mention everyone involved...you can send me a pm with your real name if you want to...and if you're fine with my idea... Phone Post

Ah, SN bets... sorry you lost

Cool with your idea, I only ask you give credit where credit is due as Parts 1, 2 & 4 are not mine and it sounds like you will or you can just add the links if you want. No one knows me by my real name, they only know me from my SN lol

Thank you and good luck with the article!

never heard this before. always did it in a relaxed manner, imaging and reacting.

That is important as well, you need both. However, I can tell you that shadow boxing hard, while forcing yourself to have good form, will change your life. Guys that don't have good control at the end of their punches and lack the muscle condition to retract hard punches quickly, are much easier to draw in and counter.

I am but a novice to boxing but I can say that the main benefit I have gotten from shadow boxing is that it teaches me to throw punches without offbalancing myself. Since I am not hititng a target it is easy for me to tell when I overcommit to punches or allow my weight to transfer to far forward because it I will have to do a noticeable recovery before pucnhing again. You don't get this benfit when hitting the heavy bag because even if you overcommit to a punch the bag is there to absorb the shot and keep you from getting really off balance. I am probably not wording this well but hopefully it makes some sense.

Chappie -  Shadow boxing can be a great learning tool if people actually critically evaluate their technique and attempt to correct their respective flaws through the process of so doing. However, I would question the profound learning benefit derived from shadowboxing in the manner that most people do of simply thowing punches in the air in a non-mentally engaged in manner. It is funny how conditioned the reflexive exercise of shadow boxing becomes after a while though, even as an old ass man of nearly half the age of Martin Burke, I still have to willfully suppress the inate urge to shadowbox every time that I stand in front of a mirror. Ecellent post!

I think critical evaluation and correcting flaws/mistakes is an important mental activity for any practice/training exercise.

Shadow boxing if done right is the most important part of training. It is also the hardest which is why most people tend to shy away from it or say it is boring. I was taught to shadow box with full power and intent in my punches and movement.
