This seems like a lot more studying than BJJ. Is there a curriculum for it? Do you start doing ne waza.

Judo classes, how do they work?

You start with warmup exercises/stretches then some tumbling exercies/breakfalls. Then moving Uchikomis or standing uchikomis. Then usually the instructor will demonstrate a throwing tecknique and have you practice it. Or he could demonstrate some mat technique and have you practice it. Or he could start by having you practice aspects of throwing techniques like repetitive squating and lifting to develope off balancing. He then progress with maybe a combination throw or series of mat techniques based on the first example. Then you could do throwing on the crash pads to develope full committment to a throw. YOu could do 3 rounds of mat work. YOu could do 3 rounds of stand up. Or 5-6 rounds of standup.
