Pettis would get messed up my ass. 145 is the worst division in MMA and 155 probably the best. Being the 145-lb champ proves a limited amount about how he could fare against a top 155'er like Pettis. This is not a 35-year old Ken Flo. If anybody would be messing anybody up, it's Pettis messing up Aldo's little head.

This fight shouldn't have to happen at 145 though. Pettis is a decent sized 155'er. He was 167 in his last fight. 170 before in the couple of fights before Stephens. And he's lean at those weights. Aldo should have to move up or it doesn't happen. That's more reasonable for Aldo. He barely can make 145 himself.

I doubt this happens though. This is just his manager answering a question posed by a reporter. Larry Pepe asked Pettis the same question and he basically said if he was going one way or another, it would be 145. But didn't sound seriously interested in the idea at the time.

His next career move is obvious to me. He should fight Maynard. He would dispel the myth that he can't deal with wrestlers and earn the UFC shot.

I made a thread about this when they announced Frankie got his rematch and no one thought there was any way Pettis could make 45. Phone Post

^Pettis wants no part of Gray Maynard. If he couldn't handle Guida, he has no chance against Gray. Phone Post

Short-sighted to say the least. One fight, when he was 24, in his octagon debut. As if he can't improve, didn't beat wrestlers like Bendo, Castillo, and Roller before that, didn't just beat Stephens who has solid offensive wrestling when he doesn't try to slug with opponent, and octagon debuts don't produce anomalous results. Condit lost to Kampmann in his octagon debut, no way he beats a striker like Diaz. Sonnen lost to Maia in his debut, no chance he can get a title shot and dominates Andy for 24 minutes. Munoz got KO'ed by Matt freaking Hamill in his debut, no way he can turn around and be a contender.

Cool idea but I do not see this match being made. Why would Pettis gamble his almost assured title shot at 155 for the gamble of cutting weight to take on the solid champ at FW?

Pettis beats Aldo. Bendo beats Edgar. Pettis moves back up and beats Bendo AGAIN. Titles holder in both weight classes.

An almost assured title shot at 155 that he was to wait for until late fall most likely, considering Bendo and Frankie have a rematch scheduled for this summer. I doubt he would wait that long again, might get a fight in between, and there is always a chance he may lose the title shot by losing THAT fight. So why not drop down and fight the 145 lb champ?

ideal path would be for pettis to win, defend a few times and then set up a champ vs champ rematch with bendo.

Want:
Pettis vs Aldo
Bendo vs any other 155er
Aldo vs Cruz

Don't Want:
Another Frankie rematch against Bendo
Another Frankie rematch period
