Alistair Overeem has filed an application for a new fighter's license with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Keith Kizer, executive director of the commission, confirmed the news with Bleacher Report on Sunday. Kizer also said that he "assumes" Overeem will be in attendance for an April 24 hearing regarding his test failure for elevated testosterone to epitestosterone.

Kizer also told Bleacher Report that Overeem has also not requested that his B-sample be tested.

When a fighter gives a urine sample during the drug screening process, his urine is divided into two samples. If the A-sample fails, the fighter has the option to request that the B-sample be tested. If the B-sample is clean, the fighter likely would not be punished.

Filing a license application is a risk for Overeem. If his application is denied due to the test failure, he likely would not be able to apply for a new license until April 2013.

Maybe some mumbo jumbo about how can you random test me when I don't even have a license with your commission.

Not a win/win. If he doesn't get license, 145 is all screwy, and his career takes a real hit.
If he does, main event and, to an extent, MMA credibility takes a shot.

Pardon the pun.

If he's confident enough to go ahead and apply without testing the B sample, he must have a good case.

Or he's really dumb.

Given the last seven days that's more likely than him having a good case.

I would like to point out that this piece of news was NOT broken by Jeremy Botter, I posted the news over 11 hours ago on The Flying Knee MMA, here is the link.

http://theflyingkneemma.com/2012/04/08/news-overeem-did-not-request-a-b-sample-testing-prior-to-nsac-hearing-on-24th/

Here is my twitter where @FrontRowBrian among others agree with me and know that I broke the news.

Shame others refuse to offer credit to a smaller website.

Honestly, for MMA's sake, I hope he gets busted and loses his license. This is not the kind of publicity the sport needs when it's trying to go mainstream. I would also love to see extreme random testing, paid for by the UFC.

First offense, fined heavily and lose your license for a year. Second offense, heavily fined, and never allowed to fight professionally ever again. Phone Post

How about:

"I went on TRT after my last fight, I was always planning to apply for a therapeutic use exemption when I sought licensure to fight JDS which I have only now done, the random test was done only hours after one of my injections, and unlike Marquardt I'll be at appropriate levels on fight night. And here is a bunch of paper from Dutch doctors that, on its face, appears to back this up."

Might work.

I wonder if he applied for a TUE with this application? It'd be private under HIPPA, correct? Phone Post

No offense to Reem but I'd rather him take the shot than MMA in general. Everyone knew it was only a matter of time before his tests showed something abnormal. If he doesnt get licensed its his own damn fault. This coming from someone that really wants to see him fight JDS.

He was saying "training has been going great" on twitter days after he tested positive. Obviously, he's either stupid or has a plan.

The UFC not changing the match up this stage is evidence towards the latter. Phone Post

Hmmmm..that doesn't really sound ridiculous. Shouldn't we consider that he needs to only be in "normal range" on the night of the fight; as opposed to any day of any week?

If he is legitimately on TRT, prescribed by a doctor, then his "pop" test shouldn't count because it was administered long before fight night. Not sure , just being armchair lawyer Phone Post

Lol wow this shit is getting ridiculous if they allow something along those lines.  I'm really getting tired of this TRT garbage.  Either allow roids or don't allow roids.  Anyhow, I guess we will just have to wait and see!

Your logic is 100% backward. He is completely confident that testing the B sample would come to same result.

Perhaps. But what's the point of applying for a license before the hearing when the license can easily be denied because of the hot piss in sample A (which would mean he probably couldnt reapply for another year) unless he has a way to defend the failed test. And if he does have a way or an excuse to defend the failed test, then he doesn't need to try and fall back on sample B. Everyone knows it would probably fail too.

There's a reason the UFC, Dana, and Overeem have kept their mouthes shut so far. I'm sure they know what they're doing.
