As UFC president Dana White is quick to point out, the window of opportunity in this sport is short. Some fighters, like Antonio McKee, have been cut after a single loss. Two losses in a row is going to happen on average to 25% of the fighters, and is not necessarily a cause for release. Three in a row is close  to being certain exile.

Below is a selection of fighters who are likely one loss or at most two away from being gone.

1) Dan Hardy
Not many men have bounced back from losing four in a row to go on to have successful UFC careers. Hardy's tilt at UFC 146 on May 26 against Duane Ludwig may be his last chance to avoid the chopping block.

2) Thiago Silva
Silva has never beaten a legitimate top ten light heavyweight, as he struggled against top-notch contenders like Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida and Alexander Gustafsson. A loss Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 149 might spell the end of the line for Silva.

3) Luiz Cane
Cane has lost three of four, with all three defeats coming by way of knockout. The 31-year-old light heavyweight, may need a win over Yushin Okami at UFC 150 to avoid release.

4) Duane Ludwig
Ludwig has lost three of his last five bouts, and a loss to Dan Hardy at UFC 146 may be enough to oust him from the league.

5) Yoshihiro Akiyama
The UFC showed plenty of patience by not releasing him after he dropped a unanimous decision to Jake Shields in Feb., but a loss to Thiago Alves in July at UFC 149 would push his losing skid to five.

Beyond these five, what fighters do you think are a loss away from being released?

What about Kid? Garcia.

Garcia lost to

Manvel
Draw with roop
Should have lost to zombie
Lost to Hominick
Should have lost to Nam
Lost to Zombie
Lost to Nam

I dont remember the Massouh fight he won by split decision but I dont recall if it was a robbery or not but he really shouldnt have a win in his last 7 fights.

he should be 0-6-1.

He has lost two in a row, so I dont care if he puts on exciting fights he should be cut with another loss.

Garcia is only around cause in his last 6 fights he is 2-3-1, should be 0-5-1 but out of those 6 fights, 4 of them won FOTN and one of them was FOTY.

Thats the only reason he is still around.

Thiago Silva hasn't won a fight since August 2009, which was exactly 43 PPV's ago.

His biggest wins are against Jardine and Alexander.

And he expels horse urine from his urethra.

If they do cut Ludwig or Silva, I'd be pissed.

Ludwig was dominating Neer and Silva should be kept after the Shogun fight. He's a great gatekeeper.

yup he needs to be dropped. had plenty of chances.

but the truth is, this is all assuming the UFC would completely switch gears and start basing decisions on results instead of how much money they can make from the fighter.

so i wouldn't hold my breath on any of them. but i'd bet money hardy doesn't get dropped.

Exactly but if you get those "award fights", you stay , they are always in high demand.

You know, I kind of think they need a new way to decide who gets cut and who doesn't. It's not like they have some official system we know of but usually after 3 straight loses a fighter's cut. That's a bit too simple.

Looking at the fighters on that list, on the one hand it makes sense for them to get cut if they lose again because they're on bad losing streaks.

On the other hand, most of them have only lost to good fighters and could still beat the majority of fighters in their respective weight division so really, it wouldn't make any more sense to cut them than it would to cut a fighter who's ranked like #11-15 but that's their skill level despite the losing streak. It seems a fighter's caliber of opponent should go down as they continue on a losing streaka nd they should have to at least lose to a non-top 10 fighter before being cut.

Octagon Mom - Has any one on this forum ever discussed and concluded why Dan Hardy hasn't already been cut?

Is it because his mow hawk appeals to Generation X'ers or because his European accent makes mid westerners think he's sufistamacated?
Or maybe because he trains with Lorenzo and they are quite good mates ! Phone Post
