Of course that would've been a more interesting fight! Hunt could KO an ox, and Mir doesn't have the takedowns to get JDS on the ground and was basically target practice.

JDS knocking out Mark Hunt? Really? are there people on this earth that watch MMA and think this is a Likely outcome? I'm not saying it can't happen but it's about as likely as James toney submitting Randy in a rematch. Phone Post

I have to admit that in recent weeks, against my better judgement, the UFC Marketing Machine almost had me convinced that Frank Mir stood a chance against JDS.

They're good!

orcus - lol @ Hunt having anything to offer. At least with Mir, JDS had to be wary.

Agreed and disagreed.

Hunt wouldn't fare any better. It's just UG pipe dream.

JDS didn't really have to be wary of much from Mir. It was his choice to take the fight wherever he wanted, and Mir had 0 chance of taking it down himself.

Mir was basically non-competitive last night, so how could anyone argue that Mark Hunt would've been a worse opponent? Mark has more knockout power and better leg kicks, so you have to assume that he would have faired at least as well as JDS' last two opponents, and of course, ya never know what could happen in a fight.

again, more proof that orcus is one of the worst posters I have ever seen on a mma forum.

orcus has said that Chuck Liddell would not have had a tougher time if he fought only in Pride, ignoring the fact that most of the best lhw's fought there and a guy who never was the best pride lhw Rampage, beat Chuck, beat him in his prime and beat him twice and finished him both times.

orcus has said that Daniel Cormier has the worst standup of any heavy, worse than Brock, at least that he admitted he fucked up.

orcus has said that Diego Sanchez would 100% beat Anderson Silva, even most noobs cannot be this stupid.

now he says Hunt would not even be a fight that JDS has to be worried about. Yes Mir has JDS at least wary of subs, but to suggest that Hunt would not even make JDS wary of Hun't striking is stupid. JDS would probably still stand with Hunt, but believe me he would be respectful of Hunt's standup for orcus to imply otherwise, is more proof of the sizable proof, that orcus has no idea about this sport of mma despite living on this forum day and night.

Business as usual on the ug I say

Well we'd have to see. I agree at least that there was more doubt in that fight then this one. I favored the fight with Hendo myself.

SMH at the nuthuggery and faggotry on this thread.

Still crying that Hunt wasn't given the title shot. You do realize that he got hurt in training and had to pull out of this same card, right?

Sooo...had Hunt been given the shot, there wouldn't have been a title fight. Or Mir would've been given it with less than 2 weeks to train and the entire card would've been changed...AGAIN. Most likely though, with Hunt getting hurt so close to the event, there just wouldn't have been a title fight. Mir-Cain would've been bumped to the main event and an undercard fight would've been promoted to the PPV.

How is that better?

Jds could ko Hunt... but Hunt is a big man with devestating hands and great skills that enable him to land his concussive blows. Jds wants to play standup.... hes your huckleberry. Its an interesting fight. Hunt will come forward, throw hard jabs with big hooks, crosses and uppercuts behind them... sneaky, tricky and if he gets in.... we could have a new heavyweight champion. Youd have to favor Dos Santos with his ability to move, get off combinations at safe range and get out as needed but dont underestimate Mark Hunt at all. I think people judge so much on a short period of his career where he had some setbacks... but if you look at his entire career he has absolutely already proven himself and deserves to be in with the best. If he were training for a different opponent, and a five round fight, it's very likely that he would have had a different training routine. So whatever it was that caused the injury in training, probably would not have happened at all.

I'm inclined to call someone a noob if they don't think Hunt was at LEAST twice as likely to beat JDS than Mir.
As hard a head as anyone in history, and a K-1 champ, but the UFC can't have their champ that one dimensional. Phone Post

If you say so, because you obviously have a keen insight into how and when Hunt got hurt. Or you could be grasping at straws... Phone Post

I agree. Hunt was training for struve and was most likely preparing by doing a lot of wrestling/jiu jitsu, which is harder on your knees then striking. Good chance hunt doesnt blow out his knee preparing for junior.

Hunt did make sense. It's why we won't see Cormier/dos Santos.

Makes too much sense.

"Whatever it was". "Probably". "Most likely". "Good chance".

Grasping at straws. You don't even know how Hunt got injured. Yet, you're making excuses and speculating that he wouldn't have gotten hurt if he were training for JDS. This is now a troll thread.

Show me a report of how he got injured and I'll soften my stance a little. For all we know, he could've blown out his knee while planting or pivoting his leg during sparring. It actually seems like a better guess than yours.

You're saying that all of a sudden Hunt wants to focus on training his wrestling/jiu jitsu? After all these years of not giving a shit about it? And the person that caused him to focus on this training was Struve? A guy with a questionable chin, who seems to enjoy standing up with his opponent. Also a guy not known for his amazing takedowns.
