Former Strikeforce heavyweight Brett Rogers (11-4 MMA, 0-0 BFC) has signed with Bellator and will make his promotional debut later this month at Bellator 71.

Bellator officials today announced the signing, though an opponent wasn't disclosed.

Rogers is stuck in a 1-4 skid and hasn't fought since September, due in part to his arrest stemming from a domestic dispute. However, he said those issues are now behind him.

Rogers ultimately was sentenced to 60 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a single count of felony third-degree assault following a September incident with his wife and kid.

Bellator 72, which kicks off the organization's three-event "Summer Series," takes place June 22 at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort in Chester, W.V. The night's main card airs on MTV2, and Spike.com carries the prelims. It's not clear where Rogers will end up on the lineup.

"I am incredibly thankful to Bjorn Rebney and Bellator for giving me and my family this opportunity," Rogers stated. "I feel that I am still one of the top heavyweights in the sport, and now I have the opportunity to prove it with Bellator. I love the tournament format as it will give me the chance to regain my top position, of course with a lot hard work."

Rogers, who opened his career with a 9-0 record, was immediately released from Strikeforce upon his arrest. He most recently lost a split decision to Bellator and UFC vet Eddie Sanchez at Titan Fighting Championships 20. He is 1-4 in his past five outings, though three of his losses have come against top-tier heavyweights Alistair Overeem, Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett.

"Over the past year I have been challenged in my personal life, but all is now good in the Rogers family," Rogers stated. "Everyone makes mistakes in life, but it's how you recover that really counts. I spend every day with my wife and kids and enjoy every minute of it. Fighting is my job, and I love it, but I also love my family, and that's why I made things right before returning to the cage. All I can say is get ready for a new and improved Brett Rogers."

Crazy thing is this is a guy who has won 1 win in his last 5 fights, granted he lost to Fedor, Reem and Barnett but he couldnt even beat Eddie Sanchez.

You have the whole wife beating thing as well. But whats crazy is that he is now probably the number 3 HW in Bellator behind Konrad and Santos.

Supporting him as a fighter has nothing to do with what happened with his wife.

We don't know all the details at all.

There are TONS of "wife beaters" all of us deal with every single day unknowingly because their incident was not made as public and they weren't prominent enough for us to care.

There was no excuse for him to strike a woman, sure but there is no excuse for driving drunk yet it seems Jones gets a pass.

Hate them both, support them both but to act like one was a mistake and the other on par with setting a church on fire on Christmas day is ridiculous. Phone Post

I would say he is 2nd best to Konrad in Bellator's super shallow heavyweight division. Phone Post

'still' one of the top heavyweights? the only reason he made any list is hyperbole, and a 30 second flury against AA.

he was never 'top' anything

octowussy - This Jefferson dude is seriously obsessed with hating Jon Jones. <img src="/images/phone/apple.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

Alot of people are. Anytime someone fucks up you will see responses like his.

Even if they have nothing to do with anything Jon Jones getting a DUI will be brought up.

He has to win the tournament first, I dont think he can beat Santos so I dont even think he will get to fight Konrad.

Putting aside his personal past and his recent record he is still a guy who has knock out power and is a name fans know. they know Rogers more than they know Santos, Prindle, Grove etc.

So its a tournament depth signing.

Jones gets a pass? LOL!

But, if either of the two gets a pass, I'll give it to the guy who was dumb and negligent over the guy who threatens, intimidates and beats his wife and children.

He also did excellent against Fedor. He's a top (20) heavyweight as far as I'm concerned and his participation in Bellator will be interesting. I don't care what he does at home. Root for him to lose if it bothers you guys so much. Phone Post

I strongly doubt he'll ever fight Konrad. I don't think he can beat Santos in a tournament bout and I think Prindle could potentially out-brawl him. I don't know who else would be in this tournament but I think Grabowski, Linderman, and Hayes could beat him too.

the Fedor fight I think showed more about Fedor than Rogers.

That Fedor wasnt the best HW in the world anymore and looked beatable more so than Rogers being a top HW. Fedor did lose his next three fights.

Rogers just lost to eddie Sanchez, he isnt a top 20 HW.
