I haven't competed in quite a while, so I've got a question. Why are cups/jocks prohibited? Phone Post

I know in wrestling they are not illegal because of sprawls. I can imagine in BJJ it is the same reason, along with armbars and body triangles from the back where they dig into your opponent can cause an issue as well. I believe most tournaments do not allow the use of cups anymore.

That sucks. I'd rather feel someone's cup in my arm or back rather than take one to the nuts. Phone Post

Toronto Grappling is proud to announce they are teaming up with the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Clothesline: http://www.diabetes.ca/get-involved/supporting-us/clothesline/

Toronto Grappling will be accepting clothes, electronics, and toy donations at the Toronto Grappling Grand Prix on Friday night October 12 and Saturday October 13 at the entrance tables of the tournament. The CDA’s Clothesline will also have a truck at the venue from 10am to 2pm on Saturday October 13 for residents to donate clothes and to pick up the tournament’s donation to the charity.

We encourage everyone even though it is not mandatory to please look through your closets and drawers, and pack together all the clothes you no longer wear because they do not fit, are out of fashion, or because you have lots of other clothes you wear now. Toys and electronics are also very welcome to be donated as they could go a long way for families who are much less fortunate.

This is a GREAT OPPORTUNITY for everyone who comes to compete or spectate to make a huge difference. With so many people gathering at one location, if we all brought a few articles we could literally collect over a thousand pounds of clothing for those who need it more than us, that’s HUGE. Christmas will be 2 months after the tournament, it will be cold out and families who do not have enough will not have the same holiday spirit as so many others. We can change that for a lot of families in the midst of a day and a half in mid-October. We are only as strong as the communities that we live in and surround us, let’s all work together in supporting our neighbours.

The Toronto Grappling Grand Prix will be running 12 mats!

Instead of the boring and ordinary method of having 2 mats down and 6 across to form the 12 rings, we have elected to once again be absolutely different.

The mats will in a massive square structure of 4 rings x 4 rings with a hole in the middle for our tables, cameras, and staff. We have elected to the call the hole in the middle "the pit
".

We believe this is not only completely different but will advance the spectators perspective of the tournament as they no longer will have tables, cameras, and people in their way on the other side of the barricades. We also believe this will advance the organization of the tournament and allow our coordinators constant interaction with our table workers to keep all 12 mats running.

If the Toronto Grappling Grand Prix on October 13 receives “500” registered competitors by its deadline of Wednesday October 10, Toronto Grappling will double the amount of grand prize trips to the IBJJF Pans in California from 4 to 8 by splitting all the absolutes down the middle.

The ball is now in the competitor’s court.
