“It motivates me even more [to hear the boos],” Guida said later when asked what he thought of the crowd turning on him. “We’re on the Jersey shore, and I think there’s a misconception of what mixed martial arts is. Yeah, it motivates me even more than anything. The boos motivated me, and I was just getting into my groove. Three rounds is a warm-up; five rounds [and] I was still bouncing around.”

Go fuck yourself Guida. I came in full force to cheer for you and so did everyone else in that arena. We brought a great crowd (much better than I expected) and were polite and respectful to all the fighters.
We never booed anyone all night and cheered for transitions, takedowns, and scrambles. You deserved to be booed that night and I hope you enjoy half your fan base leaving you. Don't blame the "Jersey Shore" for you sucking balls.

You sir are correct.

I have never seen a fight where the crowd went from easy 80-90 cheering for a fighter ( Guida ) at the start of the fight to CHANTING the other guys name by the end.

RE

ARE YOU TALKING TO ME??

Yes, Clay - I am talking to you. The 'F' stands for Fighting. Not Fleeing.

my channel lost all volume for some reason early in the fight and it never came back actually.
Interesting how fast the fans flip flopped but I can't blame them, I was hoping he didn't pull out a decision.. I was so sure that he did for a second there.

Clay seemed so mug more effective in the early rounds, then he really started running away in 3,4,5.

Gray took it three rounds to two in my opinion.

Hopefully clay sticks to being clay next time. Phone Post

Fucking terrible performance.

That being said, I still respect anyone willing to step into a cage and fight...

I know dude I feel the same way, that's why I love MMA so much, because I'm too scared to do it myself. I looked to my dad who was sitting directly next to me and I said "Dad, I've never booed a fight before but this shit is ridiculous". I totally get what you are saying, but if you're going to step into the cage, then you better fight.

They were solidly in Guida's corner to start as Jersey hates Maynard because of the Edgar thing. Yet by the end had completely turned on him and not because of Gray winning them over. Phone Post

So he's trying to say the Jersey Shore crowd doesn't understand MMA and that's why they are booing him?

That is a douchey statement imo.

And why in the fuck would you get motivated by fans booing your lack of engagement.

They aren't booing because they don't understand mma, Clay.
They aren't booing because you are at the Jersey Shore, Clay.

They are booing because they know EXACTLY what you are doing.

They are booing because you choose not to fight, and look for anyway to avoid contact and stall out a 25 minute fight in which you try to steal the decision.

You shamed and insulted the fans both in attendance (who paid to watch you) and the fans at home.

Haha

Id rather lose an exciting fight then win a boring one. Especially if I'm 90% to blame for the boringness Phone Post

The more I think about his quote, the more it makes me mad.

"We're on the Jersey shore, and I think there's a misconception of what mixed martial arts is."

No, i would say if anyone has a misconception about what mixed martial arts is, it's Clay Guida. It is not the Ultimate Footwork Championships, you do not get points for "Bouncing Around after the fight". You do not win decisions by being "unpredictable". You dont score points by avoiding contact, playing it safe, lay N praying, strike n biking, dancing, throwing ineffectual shoulder shrugs after holding your opponent down for 3 minutes, or landing 4 fucking strikes per round.

Just getting into your groove? Were you going to start break dancing next? Jumping Jacks?

Maybe in all future Guida fights, his hand should be tied to his opponents hand like in Micheal Jackson's Beat it video.

If he wants to participate in a sport where energy and cardio are the main factors to being successful, maybe he should switch to triathlons like Nick Diaz.

Talking about how he was still "bouncing around" after the fight means fuck all. Next time come to fight, not to put on a dancing display.

Im even more confused by the lead in to that quote. I cant be the only one that thinks Guida has fought boring before, can I? The Pettis fight was dreadful and usually if his fights are exciting its because his opponent brings it (and clay doesn't or cant run) Phone Post

He has had the nickname "Clay N Pray" long before this fight, and it's not because hes religious.

He first started this dancing and diving, Dominic Cruz cloning technique in the Gomi fight. He had better success with it, because he was able to use it to shoot a takedown on Gomi and hold him down, until Gomi got frustrated enough to expose himself and got submitted. He wasn't able to do that to Maynard, and Gray is a better striker, so we got that turd of a fight, in which all Clay chose to do was get his groove on and dance.

People bring up the fact that he has been in so many fight of the nights, but most of those are fights in which he was getting his ass kicked, but he does have a lot of heart, so he is tough to finish.

I still contend that Guida is only ever exciting when he loses.

Signed in to say this, he fought a boring game plan against Pettis and his excitement factor was always built on wild hair rather than finishes. Seems like a nice guy but not a fighter I'm that keen to watch really.

How amusing that after him and his brother's post-fight antics, he labels another group as being low class.

"Three rounds is a warm-up; five rounds [and] I was still bouncing around."

Gee then maybe you should...I dunno, fight harder?

I was pretty disappointed in that strategy also, but was really really worried that the judges would give him the decision.

And to top it off...he lost. It's one thing to defend your negative strategy when you win but when you lose the fight and fans there's no case you can make for yourself.

Im sure he's a great guy.

But with his strategy to win fights the last couple of years, he deserves the criticism he is now getting, especially since he seems to be snubbing his nose at the now overwhelming fan outrage at his "style" by basically saying they don't understand what they are watching.

I know Snookie and The Sitch will forver tarnish the legacy of the intelligence level of "the jersey shore" community as a whole but when fighters start taking pot shots at it to try and cover their shit performances it is crossing the line dammit!!

God damn MMA fans are a fickle bunch.  Yes the fight was boring and his strategy was frustrating to watch... he was doing a great job making Gray miss but wasn't capitalizing on it at all and it made for a very boring fight.

That being said, the dude has had 42 fights and all but 17 have ended decisively one way or the other.  He is a nice guy, a great fighter and shouldn't be defined by one poor performance.

It is not just one, that is the issue. This was just by far the worst.
