Nate Diaz: By The Numbers

UFC Lightweight contender Nathan Donald Diaz has delighted us with such memories as the 'Flex and Double Finger' before submitting Kurt Pellegrino and the 'Cerrone Cage Finger'. Like his brother Nick, he gives very few interviews and has a distaste for the press and to a degree the spotlight. As well he has a very similar style to Nick, his pitter patter boxing style directly mirrors that of his brother, and his dangerous BJJ is near identical. There is no denying Nate's talent or work ethic, he leave it literally all in the cage.

Nate has amassed a record of 16 wins, and 7 losses: winning eleven by submission, 3 by KO/TKO, and two by Decision. Losing one time by submission, and six by Decision.

He has finished all but two of his opponents that he has defeated. Those being Josh Neer at UFC Fight Night: Diaz vs Neer, and Donald Cerrone at UFC on Fox 3. Currently Diaz sits at 87.5% finishing rate. Being finished only once himself, that coming at the hands of Hermes Franca via Armbar at WEC 24.

In Diaz's UFC career he has accumulated nine 'of the Night' honors. Five being 'Fight of the Night', while four are 'Submission of the Night'. As well he made a run at Welterweight gaining two wins over Rory Markham & Marcus Davis, and two defeats at the hands of Kim Dong-Hyun & Rory MacDonald.

It has been 5 years, 8 months, and 16 days since Diaz was finished. Or 2086 days.

In his UFC career Diaz has thrown 717 strikes, with an accuracy of 43%.

His opponents have thrown a collective of 440 strikes.

In his fight against Clay Guida at UFC 94 they both threw exactly 49 strikes.

Diaz has completed 14 take downs, while his opponents have completed 36 take downs on him. With a success rate of 28% and a defense rate of 48%.

Nate has attempted 20 submissions, completing 7 of them. That is a 35% success rate per attempt.

Diaz's opponents have combined record of 376 wins, 159 loss, 14 draws, and 6 no contests.

Though for much of Nates career he was in his brothers shadow, he has come into his own, proving he belongs at the top of the Lightweight food chain. With recent dominating wins over Jim Miller and Donald Cerrone he only cements this. Will he be champ? No one knows the answer to the question to that, but he will likely get a chance at the Champ before his elder brother returns to the UFC.

Whether you like him, or the colorful hand gestures he likes to flash at his opponents and the cameras, is a matter of personal taste. Nate has shown how dangerous he is on the ground on the feet, and being that nine of his 16 UFC fights have earned an 'of the night' bonus, he is quite likely to give you a great fight when he walks into the octagon.

i dont care about the errors. i like what was written and the facts are there. nate really is coming into his own as a fighter and i think has a better chance of beting the champ than nick does at welter. but bendo is really good. i dont see him losing to edgar as much as i like frankie. nate vs bendo is gonna be a scrap that the fans win. i dont see ben taking too kindly to being slapped and nate better not come in and try to talk when he should fight like his brother does. is it just me or did nate not always come off as an ass IN the cage. i really strted to notice it in the rory fight. before i didnt see it as much

thanks, I think nate is the only real threat at lw, aside from pettis but I don;t know what they are doing with pettis to be honest. NAte vs Pettis would have been awesome but it looks like theyll pass that off. against bendo i think nate can win the stand up, but on the ground how will he win? of course nate triangles everybody but i mean we see bendo in everything and just doesn't tap. if hes triangled he will just pick you up. guilliotines he just holds his breath and avoids the blood part etc etc. it will be a war.

The biggest difference I see is Nate is more mature, and doesn't have to rely on getting his opponent up against the cage to land lots of punches.

My point is everyone is still looking at him as just Nick's little brother if that makes any sense Phone Post
