Hello I do muay thai and enshin karate. I was wondering if doing yoga would be beneficial to my effectiveness in these two martial arts/combat sports. If so, then how?

thing is you have to weigh up the benefit againts what you could use the same amount of time for... if you do muay thai 2 x week, and add a yoga session, but could have done muay thai 3 x week, its a poor choice...the muay thai session will be of more benefit

If you max out your muay thai sessions where you train, but want to add more to your schedule, then its something that'll be of more benefit... but is it of more benefit than other strength and conditioning? well it really depends on your needs... working long slow distance or interval spints might be more pertinent to some people...and some people may just want to do yoga as it interests them

Interestingly there is a little taught aspect of muay thai in the west called the hermit poses which is like muay thai yoga...

Train yoga with a specific purpose!

How does kickboxing deteriorate your body? How can yoga help?

Kickboxing is a Kyphotic movement, like boxing. The shoulders hunch forward, chest tightens, muscles in the mid-back lengthen and get weaker.

Kickboxing sends lots of tension into the lats.

Tight muscles in the chest and lats can lead to shoulder problems.

Kickboxing is great for the hips.

Kickboxing brings lots of tension into the calves.

Yoga can: 1) open your chest muscles 2) strengthen the mid-portion of your back 3) stretch your lats 4) mobilize your shoulders 5)loosen your calves to allow a better transfer of power 6)strengthen your core complex
