Cung Le fights Patrick Cote on Saturday at UFC 148, and recently wrapped up filming for the part of Bronze Lion in Quentin Tarantino's The Man With the Iron Fist. Le discussed being handpicked for the role by director RZA.

Stephie Daniels: You've just finished filming a Quentin Tarantino film. You've made leaps and bounds in your movie career, so I have to ask if getting your first win in the UFC ranks as high as landing a role of this magnitude?

Cung Le: I take my career as a fighter just as seriously as I take my career as an actor. Every fight, whether it's UFC or Strikeforce, is a big deal to me. This fight is on a huge card, so it's kind of like the big budget project of my MMA career. I'm a supporting lead, along with Patrick Cote, in this project, so I'm definitely going to do my part and try to steal the show. Everything I do, I put 185% into it, so for me, it's go big or go home.

Stephie Daniels: What has it been like, working with such a talented cast and crew for The Man With The Iron Fists?

Cung Le: Well, the first person that invited me over was RZA. I was in LA one day, taking meetings, and he invited me over to his studio. When I went over there, he just said to me, 'I want you to play Bronze Lion.' I told him, 'Sure, do you have a script?' He told me he had one and that he wanted me to read it and tell him what I thought of it. Then he was like, 'You know what? I want to know if you're in or not right now.' I said, 'Before I even read it?' and he said, 'Yeah, it's a good part', so I shook his hand and told him I was in. I was already signed to do Grandmasters and Dragon Eyes. Next thing you know, I was doing three movies, back to back.

Tarantino just produced it right? Kind of a liberal using of "Tarantino flick." he didn't write or direct it and he usually does both for the movies I consider Tarantino movies. Phone Post

So, Tarantino neither directed, produced, wrote or acted in this. Still it's his film?

I know the UG Blog has a history of miselading titles, but we are really trying to avoid that at present.

Story on the main page says :
Cung Le handpicked for role in Tarantino's Man With the Iron Fist

That was shortened to fit UG thread titles to
Cung Le handpicked for role in Tarantino flick

Was no effort to mislead, just fit and pick and flick rhyme.

Official poster says
Quentin Tarantino Presents

Is there anyone in the business that knows what the appropriate verbiage would be?

QT is real close with both the Rza and Eli Roth so he allowed them to slap his name on it so it could make a shit ton more $. He's been doing that sorta thing for years.

'In recent years, Tarantino has used his Hollywood power to give smaller and foreign films more attention than they might have received otherwise. These films are usually labeled "Presented by Quentin Tarantino" or "Quentin Tarantino Presents". The first of these productions was in 2001 with the Hong Kong martial arts film Iron Monkey which made over $14 million in the United States, seven times its budget. In 2004 he brought the Chinese martial arts film Hero to U.S. shores. It ended up having a #1 opening at the box office and making $53.5 million. In 2006, the latest "Quentin Tarantino presents" production, Hostel, opened at #1 at the box office with a $20.1 million opening weekend, good for 8th all time in January.'

Actually, since you ask about the proper way to word it, it's difficult because it is inherently misleading. It's kind of the point, to use Tarantino's name to lure people in. Saying anything besides "QT Presents" is wrong but that is probably too awkward for your purposes.

Butter, 'cuz I'm on a roll!
Relax people, it was my mistake initially, in that I mistitled the original article with "film" instead of production. I have edited now, and Kirik has also done the same.

It's not really anyone's fault because any use of his name as a promo is doing what he wants; gaining it exposure. However, in truth he had nothing to do with the film other than wanting to promote it. That's one thing I hate about his doing that. In truth, if anyone who I can talk face to face with mentions this as a Tarantino film, I'll be sure to say "nah, he has nothing to do with it, he's just trying to make his friends more money."
Cheap, but the way of things in Hollywood.
Hell, QT probably didn't even see the film till it was finished. lol

While I have been critical in the past of the UG's misleading title, I don't find fault with this one.

The movie is misleading the audience by suggesting that Tarantino had anything to do with it (other than putting his name on it); the reporter in the articla asks Cung about being on a Tarantino movie; Cung does not correct him. It's fair game for the UG.

FYI Crooklyn - this is not a Tarantino production or part of his production company.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1258972/fullcredits#cast

He had nothing to do with this movie. He just puts his name in as a supporter of the movie. Often people confuse that with him having played a part in making the movie. Guess what... it works. ;)

"Presents" =/= produced.

This shit looks like shit. Any form of rap music for a martial art movie set in old China is not good.

For a minute I was terribly confused on what kind of role Le could have played in Django Unchained, or why Quentin would do such a thing.

That movie looks badass. Can't wait.

Between Cung Le's hair and Tarantino's humor, I don't know what I'll be laughing at most.
