“When Alexander the Great saw the breadth of his domain, he wept for there were no more worlds to conquer.” -Plutarch

At the UFC 148 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White was asked about 37-year-old Middleweight champion Anderson Silva's next opponent.

"I honestly don’t know," said White.

The two great fights left are Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones. Neither seems likely anytime soon.

GSP has said the move up to 185 would be permanent. But the French Canadian has his hands full at 170, and likely will for a while.

Last night Jon Jones summed up a Superfight at 205 on Twitter. "I guess Anderson said he had no interest in fighting me at tonight's press conference," said Jones. "I feel the same way about him. Nothing but respect."

The next three possibilities are Mark Munoz, Chris Weidman, and former Bellator champ Hector Lombard.

Mark Munoz and Chris Weidman fight in a five-round main event at UFC on Fuel TV 4, on July 11. Should one show great dominance, excitment would rise.

Olympic Judoke Hector Lombard, who has not lost in his last 25 fights, meets Tim Boetsch at UFC 149 on July 21. Should Lombard continue to crush, kill, and destroy, the calls for a Silva fight will become deafening.

Anderson Silva says he wants to fight for another ten years; if that happens, there is time enough for the world's fastest growing sport to throw up a fighter that could eclipse even the excitment shown for Saturday's rematch.

For now, perhaps the best thing to do is forget the future, and simply enjoy the greatness of the sport's best fighter.

I'm not interested in seeing Evans lay and pray Silva which is obviously what he thinks he can do since he called him out so fast.

Lombard or Bisping next, imo. Phone Post

And legit LOL at anyone who thinks Evans would do anything but snuggle Anderson for the entire fight.

Evans knows he ain't getting a belt from Jones anytime soon. Phone Post

With Anderson's easy pass guard?

LMAO

It would look like Rashad vs Lambert.

silva's guard make him invulnerable. chael was on top the entire 1st round and he able to do zero damage.

Probably we won't see Anderson anytime soon in the octagon, so the next contender will be a winner of either Munoz vs Weidman or Lombard if he gets past Boetsch (which he will, with ease).

Imo Lombard would be the way to go.
Very interesting matchup.

Belfort is very interesting fight, despite the quick KO in their first one.

Anyway Anderson has his hands full of contenders right now.

"Georges St-Pierre, Jon Jones, Mark Munoz, Chris Weidman, and Hector Lombard are all potential future opponents for Middleweight champion Jon Jones."

Listen I love Rashad too, but he isn't going to take a chance on getting starched and losing a belt. He's going to be on top of Silva for 5 rounds taking little to no chances of letting Silva get up.

See Evans vs. Thiago for a better example fellas. Phone Post

Depends on when they want Silva to fight next.

If they want him for a Nov/Dec card then it has to be Lombard if he wins or Munoz if he wins. Unless they give Bisping a titel shot coming off a loss.

Bisping probably fights Belcher/Stann in Oct so if he won he wouldnt be ready till Jan/Feb.

So I think they will take a long look at how Lombard does, if he wins impressively I think they pull the trigger on that fight.

Rashad, Lombard (if he can get passed the barbarian), hendo, bisping/stann/belcher/Munoz (whoever wins the 4 man hell in a cell match)

Plenty of opponents around but one of them need to separate themselves from the pack Phone Post

Really the best bet would be drop the MW title and go to LHW and the UFC does a tournament to crown a new champ.

Munoz/Weidman winner, Vitor, Belcher, Stann, Bisping, Lombard/Tim winner, Rashad, Okami/Palhares winner.

That wouldnt be a bad littel tournament to crown a champ.

Only Anderson isn't some young buck, hopped up on horse roids at a weight class above.

Anderson would be easier to control and damage.
Completely agree. Phone Post

Who writes these news articles?

I don't mean to be a cunt but spelling errors and mistakes are extremely common. Does the author legitimately think excitement is spelt excitment? It was misspelt twice in this news article which leads me to believe the author is either trolling or pretty stupid.

Above comments somewhat retracted if this is copied from a different website.

Why was Belcher neglected? After he walks through Bisp people will be clamoring for it.

Rashad is the obvious answer; Championship credentials together with Anderson a dynamic marketable Main Event, finally no clear number one contender amongst a bevy of fighters like Bisping, Lombard, Munuz, Weidman, Belcher etc.

I like the idea of either Rashad vs Anderson or if they feel Rashad needs to win a fight at 185 have Rashad vs Bisping for the #1 contender.

maybe this is just me but I would like to see GSP vs Silva and also wouldn't mind possibly seeing Nick Diaz vs Silva at some point. I think Silva only has a few fights left and if he goes up to LHW you will not see him fight Machida or Jones. I also don't think his body and frame are a good fit for that division. I think there is enough talent in the WW division to at least make a few interesting fights. GSP has been the champ for years now. It's time someone actually challenges that.

Am I the only one who wants to see that? And I hate teh Diaz brothers and just want to see someone beat the shit out of both of them...

Weidman or Munoz I will not bother with. I may purchase Lombard down the road. When a MMA fighter with the elite skills of Silva trains 8,10, 12 hrs a day because its his livelihood, he will become the man. Everyone else that throws in workouts here and there to be fighters are lost, and dead and gone relatively speaking. A way of life compared to a hobby. When Silva's trainers are the best in the world, well, you're in a heap of trouble if he is in your division. Rashad will be a washout for Silva. KO in the first. Since the inception of UFC there really hasn't been anyone that could compete with Silva. Jonny Jones is the best fight out there. Ever. Maybe for the next 20 or 30 years to boot. I don't see anyone coming down the pike.

It's clearly copied from a different website, yet they feel completely fine posting it without any reference to who wrote it.
