Pretty set on i5 3570k 3.40ghz for gaming. Any objections there, i7's that are in a reasonably close price range and would be infinitely better?

Alright, and my last set of off topic question: Where do we stand on SLI these days? I havn't built in 7 years, my last desktop served me very well, and i had two gf8k series in it from the start.

Right now i'm going sort of barebones, with a z77 mobo, 3570k, case and SSD on my first order since i'm poor.  I like the price of the 2gb GTX 550ti, will that handle anything i can throw at it for now at solid frame rates and high(ish) settings? And how would throwing in a second later on compare to a brand new 400$ card?

UGCTT_Jobe Watson's Butler -  What is it that makes building your own pc cheaper than buying one? Phone Post
I got to mix and match parts and got discounts/rebates on certain pieces (motherboard/cpu combo from Microcenter, 30$ rebate for my PSU and 40$ rebate for my SSD) and I got windows 7 ultimate for free.  That totaled about 1650$.  A standard Alienware desktop would run you that much BEFORE you choose any upgrades etc (give or take a few bucks).

  Win 7 free......how?
My buddy who helped me build my pc owns a game and pc repair shop. He's really into building rigs so he threw it in for free along with a few games. Phone Post

Just got a 144hz 1ms 1080p Asus monitor, Corsair K60 mechanical keyboard and a Logitech G600 mouse. Planning on throwing in another GTX 680 in SLI by the end of next month. WIll post some pics of everything setup once I get it done.

Wikus van de Merwe - He probably realizes that games don't use the hyper threading on the i7s and he can in turn save ~$100 bucks and put that towards another component. Phone Post
