Not every teammate vs. teammate situation will end as bitter as Jones vs. Evans did, but it’s hard to ignore the signs surrounding these types of scenarios as the “super camps” continue to fill up with top talent in the same weight classes.

Take for instance, UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and 170-pound prodigy Rory MacDonald. Both train under head coach Firas Zahabi at the Tristar gym in Montreal, and both have been quite adamant in the past that they would never, ever face each other.

“I’m not interested in fighting him. There are a lot of welterweights. I don’t think we have to do it now. In two years, who knows? Maybe I’ll go to middleweight,” St-Pierre told reporters at UFC 145 earlier this year where he attended as one of MacDonald’s cornermen.

“He’s a friend, like a brother for me. I just hope the best for him and I know one day he’ll be world champion.”

MacDonald has been singing the same tune about never fighting GSP, and how out of respect for his team and coaches, he’d take the backseat for now while St-Pierre continues to drive as welterweight champion.

“It’s like this, Georges has seniority at our gym, Tristar. Georges is a friend of mine. We’re training partners together. I don’t know about you, but you probably don’t like to beat up your best friend, cut him, watch him bleed, cry, lose money, all that stuff, it sucks,” said MacDonald.

“But there’s also a thing at our gym, I don’t want to get kicked out for one. I’m newer there, and Georges brought me in as a guy in his own weight division. I have to respect that you know? I have a long way to go in this career of mine, and in the UFC, and I want to wait till I am peaked to carry that title.”

I understand why they wont fight GSP basically took him in and let him live at his house. No way I'd be able to fight someone like that especially if its GSP. Phone Post

Short answer: Yes.

If he gets past BJ, and GSP beats Condit, that collision will occur even sooner.

It depends how much pressure the "media" puts on them by writing blogs about it etc.

Rory needs a couple of more years before going for a belt.

Manny Yarbrough GOAT - Erick, Hendricks, Kampmann, Condit, Koscheck, all beat Rory, so I guess if he doesn't fight any of those, yes.

Oh, I bet.

I think he's just referring to not fighting teammates.

Collision course calls to mind two big rigs manned by methed out truckers heading into each other on the highway.

GSP and Rory?

This will be more like two old ladies on Rascals heading down the cereal aisle of a grocery store.

It looks like they might run into each other.

But you aren't going to wait forever to find out so no one ever knows.

In the end they pass each other and move on with one grabbing Cheerios and the other going for Mueslix.

It's the truckers that would make you say "Holy shit! They are gonna HIT!" Phone Post

Lesnar and Mir were truckers.

We saw them preparing to collide and it was glorious.

We need that.

We don't need another Rashad and JBJ boring us for 5 if they do finally fight. Phone Post

i_shogun_ruas - Erick Silva will DESTROY Rory.

I'm willing to bet if this fight ever happens, there will be no "destroying" from either party. Great fight, but neither will dominate the other.

If the media keeps asking these guys this question eventually one will say something that hints that they would fight. Then the media jumps all over it and we've got Rashad/Jones all over again.

I'd imagine they'd have to pay GSP tripple Anderson money to move up. Then he'd never have to fight again if he didn't want to.

I hate to break this news but no they are not. As a matter of fact, Condit is going to be the next champ. I'm afraid GSP is a little to old and will be rusty. Most likely, he will probably not have any more ridem from a bad knee and to much time off. He will probably go on a 2-3 fight lose streak and retire in a way that hurts his legacy. I hope not though

I read the title and thought GSP got sponsored by McDonald's to counter Anderson's Burger King sponsorship...

I don't think they'll ever fight. If they do it's because Rory's whipping his ass in the gym, which, if it happens, won't be for at least 2-3 years.

GSP's 31, Condit's 28. Condit has had 33 fights and GSP has had 24. GSP hardly ever gets hit.

Rory has answered this before. What he means is that he (Rory) would have to leave the gym if he fought GSP. Simply because you can't have two guys in a same gym coached by the same people, training with the same people. So since GSP has "seniority" ... it would be Rory that would have to train elsewhere. That's not something he wanted (at the time) to do.
Ahhh the english language. He said kickef out for one. Nit kicked out of one.

Thanks for tge clarification Phone Post

Does GSP vs Condit sound extremely boring to anyone else here?
