Atlanto-occipital instability makes even training for people with Downs a huge risk (esp with RA). In advanced trauma and life support training they tell people to be cautious of doing a forcefull chin lift to open the airway. If a chin lift can jeapordise the spinal in DS then i imagine many MMA submission attempts could have bad outcomes. Massive respect to him, he has heart, but there are few sports less suited to DS patients. Phone Post

Inspirational story but UFC dream is obviously far fetched, should read mma dream. You cannot go full retard, I think Dana learned that after Handy dismantled James Toney

I'd rather see a special division in the UFC before a women's division.

Fighting is already on suspect moral ground, I can't imagine allowing the mentally challenged to compete in mma.

If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much - I got the chance to meet him and his parents at UFC 148 in Vegas, great people.
Really hope this documentary gets finished and he gets his wish of MMA in special olympics.

It is a very inspirational story, and I think that is a noble and possible wish.

I don't follow other sports really, but I'm not aware of any athletes with DS in any professional sport. Google didn't give me any quick and easy results.

As fun as this idea is, it's a bad one. Say he holds a choke to long, he has the built in excuse of being full retard. Phone Post

Ok so a moral/ethical bench-press:

I am sure there are a lot of people with downs syndrome interested in fighting for democracy in Iraq.

Aye or Nay?

The Cats Masher - Very inspiring. But I don't think I could watch him fight because of the chance he'd take a beating or get KO'd, I wouldn't want to see that.

Good for him for chasing his dream though!!! Phone Post
