A one-year retirement was just about enough for light heavyweight Matt "The Hammer" Hamill, who has opted to resume his fighting career and will compete next at UFC 152 in Toronto on Sept. 22.

Hamill will meet UFC newcomer Roger Hollett. UFC president Dana White confirmed the move and said the fighters have verbally agreed to fight each other.

Hamill, 35, rose to prominence in 2006 during "The Ultimate Fighter 3." He is deaf and his struggle to overcome his disability and compete at the highest level of mixed martial arts earned him a large following. He was featured in a 2010 movie, "The Hammer."

He is the only man to have a victory over UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, though it was a highly controversial win. Jones controlled the entire fight, but was disqualified by referee Steve Mazzagatti for throwing an illegal elbow.

Hamill earned a Knockout of the Night bonus vs. Mark Munoz, and Fight of the Night bonuses vs. Seth Petruzelli and Keith Jardine. He also holds wins over Tim Boetsch and Tito Ortiz

Hamill retired last year following losses to Rampage Jackson and Alexander Gustafsson.

I like Matt, but I can't get the memories of that Rampage fight out of my head that quickly.   I hope he comes back and fights like he can.  Also drop to 185 and whip Bisping's ass again.

Cool that Hamill is coming back. But I thought that Holett just fought in Bellator for a slot in the next LHW tournament? Frankly, he didn't look very impressive against John Hawk and I'm a little surprised he'd get signed to the UFC immediately following that performance. I guess maybe it was only a one fight deal with Bellator?

Wow! Thats awesome! Always liked Hamill, I think he will do well against Roger.

Personally I thought Roger lost to John Hawk, his wrestling didn't look that good in that fight. If there is one thing Hamill will be able to capitalize on is the gap in the wrestling. Roger is a great boxer but I think Hamill will be able to control the fight and win it.

This is great news, I hope he wins. Phone Post

Agent_Doakes_Aint_no_Jokes - Did he hear about this from his management?

I don't think he's heard anything about this actually.
