Ariel looks like a boob for even repeating that ridiculous number.

Look at Malki Kawa's client list, he's clearly not an idiot.  Guy has the 155 champ, the 170 interim champ, the 205 champ, and the former HW champ.

I may not work for Nike but I do work for a major corporation in advertising. I know first hand what several sponsored athletes cost and I can tell you 20k annually is low even for a regional contract.

I'm not saying its not possible but I can't see Nike even proposing it given the normal scale. The only way I can see this happening is if JBJ's people are complete morons and actually went to Nike with a proposal for this dollar amount. Phone Post

He's nothing but a fast talker, as confirmed by many other agents on thus very forum. He lied about representing Barry Sanders and lied about college. He took classes at a community college and doesn't have a bachelor's degree.

I wouldn't be surprised if the deal negotiated was 20k upfront. Bones gets a cut of the merchandise and gets his own clothing line made. Nike would be stupid to pay more when JBJ CAME TO THEM through the UFC saying that this was his dream. They did not approach Jones. Think about that. Phone Post

Ariel is being trolled clearly. This was a deal that took something like 6 months to put together. He will have his own signature line. As has been pointed out, the cost of the lawyers to put this together would be well over 20k alone.

There is no way the number is even close to 20k. Maybe he got the figure wrong somehow - 2 million I can see, perhaps half that, but anything less than high 6 figures I'd have trouble believing.

Either this is a joke or Ariel is extremely naieve for believeing Jones would only get 20k from Nike. He would make less then the children making the shoes.

I do not care about his academic credentials whatsoever.  The guy's client list tells me he gets shit done.

Don't care what other agents say about him either, he is their competition.

I'm not some sort of Malki fanboy (do agents have fanboys?), but the fact that the guy has a lot of high profile clients tells me he is doing something right.

The figure is more likely 1-2 million a year.

A well known MMA fighter's people came to us with a proposal one time and it was for significantly more than that just for a regional contract. Not mainstream athlete money but still much more than 20k annually.

To those saying there is no difference between a regional contract and a global one, get a clue. Regional contracts mean you can only use there image in advertising in that region. Global obviously you can use it all over the world. The difference in usage rights is significant.

Once again the only way this is possible is if JBJ's people proposed it and the only way that is possible is if they did zero research and pulled that number out of their ass. Phone Post

PPVs arent so hot. Casuals are falling off. Hardcores are falling off. What MMA needs is to solidify mainstream through celebrity athletes. So let's make Jon Jones famous and rhonda Rousey. Shitty sponsorship deals that aren't really about the sponsorship but about visibility. A Nike deal at this point does a lot for Jon jones, his PPVs, UFC in general and the sport of MMA. A famous Jon Jones makes JJ more money. It's publicity. It's marketing and most of all it makes the sport a sport officially. Phone Post

Dana is absolutely rewarding the kid. Remember he went from sponsored with other MMA companies to sponsored UFC guy. A holding spot while this deal was being worked out. Phone Post

Alpha World Peace -  On this week's MMA Hour, Ariel says that Jones' sponsorship deal is worth 20,000 dollars a year.

If true, Nike negotiated insanely well...knowing that Jones has been talking about wanting them as a sponsor for years and having just received a DUI with two young injured girls in the car. Phone Post

This is what I was just thinking about the other day.  He said it was a dream of his, so it looks like they could have scooped him up for cheap.  Not sure if the 20K thing is true though.  Seems like some shit that Rick's Tire Barn would pay. Regardless of what it is, I would guess that he was happy just to be signed by them.

Not sure when this deal went through, but he was wearing a Nike Air t-shirt in the front row of the Silva/Sonnen fight about 6 weeks ago.

Legit LOL @ "Rick's Tire Barn".

Probably accurate with sales incentives built into the contract. Percentage of sale type of thing. Phone Post

For shame Ariel...

There's obviously WAY more to it then that. If someone told Malki this number he'd laugh in their face. Can we get a real reporter on this story?

I'm a big Ariel fan, I don't see that info being acurate though, $20K / month seems way more likely...

there are startups paying guys more than that.

I don't think he's intentially misleading, I think he just got some bad info...

this.

Ari Emanuel is the one that even got Jon/Malki IN with Nike, he called Phil Knight and asked him to make it happen, google both those guys and tell me how likely a $20,000 a year sponsorship resulting from their conversation is...

it would be a slap in the face.

If this turns out to be wrong, it's going to make Ariel look like a complete douche. Who reports on the value of a contract if it sounds ridiculous and only has one source to back it?

Wait until it's confirmed with multiple sources, otherwise it just makes it look like he's eager to break a sensational story.
