Do workouts targeting the core help burn the fat off? Currently I'm under the impression that once the rest of your bodies fat is gone then the mid section with start melt away regardless of what workouts are performed. Phone Post

Targeting the abs directly to burn fat is a fool's errand. You are much better off spending that time doing some - ANY -form of cardio.

When I see big fatsos doing crunches at the gym I don't know whether to laugh or scream. Phone Post

^^ Truth above !! Also I believe the best way to burn off body fat is to train hard , lots of cardio , but some weights too , on an empty stomach , like first thing in the morning . With no food in your system to burn as fuel your body will burn fat to fuel your workouts . Also don't eat carbs in the evening . And of course no junk food and beers .

diet. just eat basically only lean meat, green vegetables and some added fat(extra virgin olive oil, fish oil, almonds, etc.). i always maintain a low bodyfat percentage, but if i want to get absolutely ripped, i just eat this everyday for about a month:

breakfast: eggwhite omelet with shitton of spinach and tomatoes, 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 grapefruit

lunch: baked chicken breast with shitton of steamed greens(kale, spinach, chard, broccoli, or whatever other green i have), 1 tbsp olive oil

2nd lunch: same as above

dinner: same as above

snack: lowfat cottage cheese + frozen blueberries

drink only water and tea throughout the day. boring but easy.

Do you do a carbload at weekends? Sounds identical to mine, virtually no carbs but lean protein and good fats and lots of greens. Cauliflower Aswell. I feel muh healthier after 3 weeks and it isn't a hard diet to follow. Phone Post

this myth has been since proven to have some truth to it....

an article over on T-nation points out that areas with the greatest circulation have higher fatty acid mobilization. but obviously you can't eat excess calories and carve abs by doing only crunches....

 Yes and no.

Often "fat bellies" are two things: fat and a streched out  loose core.

Depending on how far gone you are, tightening up your core muscles might make a major difference visually even with the same amount of fat.

RobinHood -  Working the Abs should be part of everyone's program. Contrary to popular belief compound exercise such as squats, clean and jerks is not enough to give you solid Ab workout.

I'll prolly get heat for this suggestion. But facts are facts. Phone Post

your deep abdominal wall is strengthened by compounds lifts, aka "functional core"/"stability strength". Visible muscles don't mean a strong core, sir. Transverse abdominis function in anatomy is not cervical flexion but stability of the thoracic and lumbar spine as well as the pelvis.

I do agree that ab works needs to be a part of everyones program but not doing crunches and such. More like this video...
