Most of the time I dont get done training until late... 9ish during the week.

Can anyone suggest something that would be good for a post workout/meal replacement so I dont have to cook dinner at 10pm?!

Any help is appreciated!

Nothing really replaces a good meal after training as protein is essential for muscle repair. Why not prepare meals beforehand so they're ready to go once you're done? At the very least try get a protein shake down you. I always have trail mix after training too, although I can't testify to this having any benefit, it just appears to help me with fatigue. Also don't be scared to get carbs in their too. Your body can only absorb and use 30-45g of protein at a time so don't overdo it in one sitting. Phone Post

Torrent by Universal is one of the best post workout drinks because it's one of the few that actually contain simple carbs. That's important because simple carbs raise your insulin levels and allow fast, direct absorption of the protein.

Drinking a protein shake is also better than having a meal such as chicken or steak because of the quick digestion. And studies showed that protein and carbs yield better results as far as muscle growth than protein alone.

Optimum Nutrition also makes one called After Shock that comes in chocolate or vanilla but I prefer Torrent because of the refreshing citrus flavors which seem better when you're hot from your workout.

If you're on a budget, then go with the chocolate milk as previously suggested. Same reason; protein and simple carbs from the sugar. Phone Post

Fucking hell, do you take a blender with you to the gym or something?

Banana's are awesome for a post workout snack to get some quick acting sugars in you, relieve you of cramps, get some electrolytes back into your system etc. Why aren't they good?

Whey shake and a Banana are awesome for p/workout.

What do you have? Dates etc?

Let me get his right:

The best protein I can get is from peanut butter?

The best glucose I can get is from banana?

The best complex carb I can get is from brown bread?

I totally get it if ppl wanna steer clear of protein shakes (I don't). But advising someone to eat crappy post workout meal is nonsense.

And to those advocating chocolate milk - seriously just jump off a cliff. Phone Post

I agree with all of these being wrong except for chocolate milk. It's actually as good as a post workout protein shake and a simple carb, which is exactly what chocolate milk is. Studies have proven that but I'm too lazy to go searching for them.

Peanut butter is a bad source of protein because it is mainly fat, thus it's a great source of FAT, which also happens to have some protein. In order to consume an adequate amount, you'd be ingesting too much fat, and you shouldn't even be eating ANY fat post workout in the first place.

A banana is not a good source of carbs since it doesn't really spike your insulin levels the way you want after a workout. It's pretty low on the gyclemic scale and should be considered a complex carb. It ranks 30-62. An optimal sugar is glucose which is what the scale is based on, and that's 100. Only Dextrose is higher at 111. Waxy Maize, for example (found in Torrent) is 90.

Gots to go eat, but I'll be back to discuss why brown bread is not good for post either. : ) basically, it's the same reason as the banana.

PEACE!

Ok - I took a read.

And my thought is - chocolate milk contains casein protein. Therefore, I would only drink this at bedtime. I need fast acting whey protein post workout to aid recovery.

At the end of the if you see good results from choc milk - then stick to it. Phone Post

LOL

So you wont even drink it unless it's at bedtime?

You must be a physical specimen to have this down to such a perfect science.

I really must be doing everything wrong by not giving a shit about this stuff.

milk protein contains both casein and whey. your body really doesnt give a flying fuck if you drink milk or whey powder. lol @ becoming so obsessed with the marketing bullshit put out by the supplement companies that you wont even drink milk because it has casein in it.

I get what you are saying, that there is probably something better for you than choc milk, but I just think that this doesn't matter as much as you think it does.
