In this video I cover the basic setup for the Leg Weave or Leg Lasso series. I also show the most basic sweep that most people have seen before. This sweep is highly effective and as anyone that has had it done to them knows, it can be very difficult to defend. There are countless setups for entering into this position, this is just one of them. I really like this setup as it is simple, effective and makes use of motor movements that we have previously used (the Scissor Sweep entry). Once you have entered into the Leg Weave it is time to start threatening your opponents base. Make sure to do this by opening your knee and never giving your opponent a chance to crush/clap your knees together. Having your knees squeezed together can lead to some problems with this sweep. Thankfully it can be difficult to do. Once you have enforced the distance and challenged your opponents base you will move your non-leg weaved leg to the opposite hip (reference the video). This will allow your opponent a free pathway to Side Control. During that transition you will open your knee away from you. This will pull your opponent across your body and make them base on the far side. This step is VERY under played but VERY VERY important. Do not get carried away and try to push them away on your shins until AFTER they have based on the far side of you. Once you bring your opponent over it is important to have them loaded up on both shins. It is a common mistake that people straighten their legs instead of pushing with their shins. This gives some of the same pressure but changes the position. I address this briefly in the video but I do not demonstrate what I am talking about. If you are having a hard time visualizing what I am talking about, just make sure that both shins are on your opponent as demonstrated in the video.
