Haye Explains The Injury To His Hand, Withdrawal                                                                                                                                                   Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=65558#ixzz2TQYoSFd1

By David "Hayemaker" Haye

Just a quick message to again express how sorry I am for postponing my return to the ring because of injury. It was a tough decision to make, as I didn't want to let anybody down, but was one made easier by the pain I experienced. In the end, I had no choice but to postpone the fight.

The injury occurred on Sunday evening, when I was hitting the heavy bag as ferociously as I always do. After landing a punch, I instantly felt a shooting pain in my left wrist. The pain never stopped.

I went and got it checked out immediately and was told I'd suffered a subluxation of the wrist, and that the pain in the wrist was due to the intercarpal ligaments around the capitate being damaged. The specialist then told me the wrist would take a minimum of four weeks to heal and that I should avoid punching, of any kind, during this period.

As you can imagine, I was totally gutted. After hearing the diagnosis, I knew it was going to be extremely difficult to train the way I wanted to. And, by the time it healed, I would have been way behind schedule. My timing and sharpness would be non-existent come fight night on June 29, as not being able to punch before a boxing match is far from ideal.

Injuries in training happen more often than you think, and I've had to overcome plenty of them in the past. Sometimes you can get around them and fight through the pain. But other times, they just get the better of you. That is what happened to me on Sunday.

It's devastating and has put me back a few steps, but I made the only choice available to me. There was absolutely no way I could take at least a month off from punching and then expect to turn up and beat any world-class heavyweight.

All I can do now is wait for it to heal and get back into the swing of things. I'll keep my weight down, continue eating healthy food, and then, when the time is right, step up the punching side of my training. The wait will be frustrating, both for me and my fans, but as soon as I'm in a position to announce another fight date, my fans will be the first to know. I won't make you wait very long.

For those looking to refund tickets, the best thing to do is contact the point of sale. I've been told Eventim are offering full refunds on all tickets sold, which is great news. Again, so sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Mayweather is Easily Highest Paid Athlete

Galvanized by an unprecedented deal with Showtime that guarantees him at least $32 million per fight, boxing great Floyd (Money) Mayweather Jr. sits atop the 10th annual Sports Illustrated Fortunate 50, which ranks the 50 highest-earning professional athletes in the U.S. With $90 million in projected earnings for 2013, Mayweather tops the list for the second consecutive year. The complete list is available at si.com/Fortunate50 and is also featured in the May 20, 2013 edition of SI.

Tiger Woods, who was No. 1 on the Fortunate 50 every year from 2004-11, falls to his lowest ranking ever (No. 5, $40.8MM). LeBron James (No. 2, $56.5MM) is the first team-sport player to crack the top two since Shaquille O’Neal did it in 2004. James’s $39 million in endorsements were more than any other U.S. athlete in 2013. A historic $37 million signing bonus helped Drew Brees skyrocket to No. 3 on this year’s list. Brees didn’t crack the top 50 in 2012.

The 2013 Fortunate 50 was compiled by Sports Illustrated special contributor Daniel Roberts, a writer-reporter for Fortune Magazine. The list consists solely of salary, winnings, bonuses and endorsements. Roberts consulted with players’ associations, tour records, online databases, agents and reports. Endorsement estimates came from a stable of marketing executives, agents, and other experts, including Burns Entertainment & Sports Marketing.

For team sports, salaries are based on current or most recent seasons. NFL rankings are based on the season that ended in February. (Joe Flacco’s new deal, where he is set to earn $20.1 million next season, isn’t reflected.) The 2012 calendar year was used for auto racing and tennis. Golf earnings are from July 1, 2012 through April 21, 2013 (the RBC Heritage). Boxing purses are from August 2012 through May 2013, but include projected money from fights through September. Candidates for the Fortunate 50 must be U.S. citizens or play in a U.S.-based league.

Mayweather sat down with executive editor Jon Wertheim for a Q&A, featured in this week’s SI, before his victory over Robert Guerrero on May 4. He says, “Surround yourself with the right team. It takes brains to make the money.” When asked how his time in prison affected his view about money, Mayweather adds: “I got offers and huge deals when I was locked up, with CEOs writing me, wanting to do business with me, Fortune 500 companies wanting to do business with me.  But my main focus was just coming home and being free.  You can have all the money in the world, but if you’re not free, it’s like being poor, because you can’t do anything.”

The 2013 list features 25 baseball players, 13 basketball players, eight football players, two golfers, one boxer and one NASCAR driver. No female athletes were ranked in the U.S. list for the fifth consecutive year. There are 17 athletes on the 2013 list that were not there in 2012, including Johan Santana (No. 13, $26.3MM), Dirk Nowitzki  (No. 35, $21.3MM) and Miguel Cabrera (No. 36, $21.2MM), who joined the list due to a tweak in the rules that puts anyone on an American sports team on the Fortunate 50, whether or not they’re a U.S. citizen. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (No. 49), Derek Jeter (No. 19) and Larry Fitzgerald (unranked) dropped out of the top 10 from last year.

The New York Yankees topped team sports with five representatives on the list. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies came next with four players each, followed by the Detroit Tigers, San Francisco Giants, Miami Heat and LA Lakers with three. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the only NFL team to have more than one player on the list (Vincent Jackson, No. 15 and Carl Nicks, No. 21).

Soccer star David Beckham ($48.3MM) tops the SI International 20, which ranks the 20 highest-earning international athletes. Beckham unseats tennis champ Roger Federer (No. 2, $43.4MM), who ranked No. 1 the previous three years. Tennis star Maria Sharapova (No.9, $25.5MM) is the top-ranked female to crack either list. Fellow tennis player Li Na (No. 17, $17.3MM) is the only other ranked female.

TiliShkodrani - You guys are too naïve. Floyd does make a shit load of money, but you think he gets to keep all of it? Like 50 cent said, Mayweather promotions is just a name, it's not incorporated, it's not an LLC, it's not a legit company. Mayweather is "technically" a Golden Boy fighter. He fights in every single Golden Boy card and is promoted by Golden Boy. You think Golden Boy does all that work for free? Add taxes on top of that.

Floyd is lucky if he keeps half of what he earns. And your own post told you everything you need to know. 0 Dollars from endorsements? WTF? Someone of his stature should be making millions in endorsements. This shows Floyd is not smart, he's not capatilizing on making money other than just boxing.

Till,

Please read this article. If you can really sit in here and call Floyd stupid for reaching out to Ellerbe and Haymon to conduct a first and only designed contract for himself, as well as claim to know the works of something that intricate from wherever you are, you certainly have the in. Floyd isn't making money other than boxing? Set purse, PPV, Gate, Food and Beverage of the arena, movie theatres, t shirts and store merchandise, blah, blah, blah, that unlegit Mayweather Promotions gets a cut of everything regardless of what size the cut is.

It is tough to disagree on Mayweather being 'technically' with GBP. Mayweather promotions hires GBP on a constant basis now, but at the same time its tough to say when Mayweather Promotions has a hand in so many separate things as far as earnings go. I'm aware of insurance, sanctioning fees, network costs, etc.

I don't think you have a shit opinion, i'm not arguing really per say. But I do think the Floyd hate gets a bit strong around here some times.

Article on Mayweather earnings breadown.

What about all his endorsements?
Just via quick web check on my phone, I saw a blurb from Forbes saying he earned $6 million in endorsements. He hasn't fought this year, so I suppose 'only' (wish I suffered this kinda poverty) $6 Million isn't enough to put him on this list. Phone Post

Floyd hasn't said anything about Canelo's weight, people are reacting off a comment made by Canelo's trainer. Canelo doesn't have good cardio, doesn't matter his weight, he's always fought in spurts.

I suspect he'd gain at least 10 pounds, you gain a little over a pound from a 20 ounce bottle of gatorade.

If he doesn't have good cardio then what the problem man? Wouldn't he just gas out and Floyd would pick him apart? Canelo also has no footwork right? Floyd would run rings around him.

It would be an easy victory for Floyd, all the advantages are in his favor.

So why not fight? Oh yeah, I forgot, he's too GOD DAMN BIG!

who said they weren't fighting? For all you know, the "rumored" 147 pound offer from Floyd could be negotiation tactics. Again, no one knows what's going on right now.

Kell Brook-Carson Jones Rematch Confirmed For 7/13                                                                                                                                              Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=65551#ixzz2TWNp5VE5

By Terence Dooley

Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Kell Brook will rematch Carson Jones on a "Huge night of boxing" at Hull's Craven Park Stadium on July 13.  Brook-Jones II will be joined by Luke Campbell's pro debut and the Commonwealth lightweight title showdown between Hull's Tommy Coyle and Liverpool's Derry Mathews.

Brook, 29-0 (19), suffered a broken nose en route to a decision win over Jones, 35-9-3 (25), last year, but has been unable to move forward with his ill-fated showdown with Devon Alexander.  A rematch with Jones will give the Sheffield-based boxer the opportunity to shed some ring rust, he has fought not fought since wiping out Hector Saldivia in three rounds in October, and help get his world title bid back on target.

Campbll, 25, won bantamweight gold at the Olympic Games and is ready to take his professional bow in front of his hometown fans.  "We've got a big venue for this one and we can't wait to take Luke back to Hull," said Hearn when speaking to BoxingScene about the show.

I don't understand why Floyd is so opposed to catchweight fights. I think a 151 catchweight fight makes sense.

So he doesn't mind fighting Cotto at his "natural weight" and pat himself on the back for that unlike Pacquiao fighting him at 145, but he wants the Light Middleweight Champ at Welterweight. How does that work?
