So according to the HBO Canada guide and website they are not showing Dawson/Stevenson this Saturday, despite the fact that it involves a Canadian and is in Canada.

According to Gary Hyde, manager of WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8KOs), the Cuban boxer will return in September or October - against former champion Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28KOs). Rigondeaux had a career defining performance in April when beat Nonito Donaire with a twelve round decision in New York City. Rigondeaux upset highly regarded prospect Orlando Del Valle last September with a ten round decision. He then signed a promotional contract with Top Rank [who also have Rigondeaux] and returned last month with fourth round stoppage of Javier Gallo in Laredo, Texas.

The fight I'm most looking forward to this weekend is Erislandy Lara vs. Alfredo Angulo. If Angulo wins he is right back in the hunt for a title shot and will have made a nice comeback from his recent adversities.

If Lara wins he further cements himself as the top guy at the weight outside of Canelo.

I love Angulo, but this is shitty match for him. Lara will out-box him in a relatively boring fought IMO.
Canelo vs Angulo would have been sick. Too bad Kirkland went insane again, the match with Angulo would have been fun as well.

yea don't think Angulo has the foot work to cut the ring off...Lara should have an easy time, but things happen.

I'm excited to see Gamboa again, he's always entertaining. Perez is no slouch, so Gamboa needs to fight perfect.

Some interesting exercises there. He was actually doing pushups on his knees! aka girl pushups.

Maybe just as a warmup though.

Team Gamboa Accuse Top Rank of "Protecting Fighters"                                                                                                                                        Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66310#ixzz2VUr0AKo3

By Miguel Rivera

Tony González, manager of Olympic champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, is frustrated that his boxer is unable to secure some of the necessary key matches in the lower divisions. He says the reason Gamboa moved up to 135-pounds is because they were unable to make fights with other contenders and champions at the weight. Gamboa faces undefeated Darley Perez on Saturday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal. HBO will televise the contest.

Gonzalez reflects on Gamboa's past and claims Top Rank kept his fighter away from Juan Manuel "Juamna" Lopez, although both were under the same promotional banner at the time.

"In the smaller weight categories, there is a cap on what you can make. The best thing to do is move up and find an opponents who guarantee the best purses. At 126-pounds he faced everyone except 'Juanma' López because they were protecting him. Now [Top Rank] is going to sacrifice him to make Mikey Garcia's career. Top Rank protects their fighters and that prevents us from making fights. We wanted to make a fight with Rocky Martínez at 130 pounds, but it was not possible; then we are looking for Juan Carlos Burgos and we couldn't get him, so we decided to go to 135 pounds where there are good boxers who guarantee good fights and good purses," Gonzalez told Terra Deportes.

Gamboa also chimed in with his thoughts.

"We were willing to fight with Juanma López to unify the titles, but they never made that fight. Then he was put in to fight Salido, which didn't make much sense because I had already beaten [Salido]. If you have a champion he must fight with the boxer who wins. What happened is that they were protecting Juanma López and things went very wrong for [Top Rank]," Gamboa said,

Hearn Contacts Ward's Promoter For Froch HBO Rematch                                                                                                                                       Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66302#ixzz2VUsKHmnU

Eddie Hearn says he wants Carl Froch to face either Mikkel Kessler or Andre Ward in the winter before a huge all-British summer clash with George Groves.

Froch exacted revenge on Kessler in a blockbuster night at the O2 Arena on May 25, adding the WBA belt to his IBF strap in a thrilling contest on Sky Sports Box Office.

With Froch spending time with his family after partner Rachael had their second child, Natalia, just before the fight, Hearn’s attentions are on The Cobra’s next moves, and the promoter has two massive dates in mind.

“Now that the dust has settled after a memorable night for Carl Froch and British boxing, it’s time to start looking to the future,” said Hearn. “Every man and his dog have been calling Carl out, that comes with the territory but commercially, Froch v Kessler III is just a huge fight. The first two were stunning nights and everyone knows what they would get from the decider.

“Each one has been brutal so we will give Mikkel and his body time to see if he wants to go again. I have made contact with Ward’s promoter and we are ready to begin discussions with them and HBO. For us, the fight would have to happen wherever it would make the most financial sense and that’s the UK.”

As well as targeting a huge winter night for Froch, Hearn is planning a summer extravaganza for the Nottingham star – and says an all-British unification bout with ‘Saint’ George Groves would be something special.

“We will look to fight this winter and then lead into a big stadium fight next summer,” said Hearn. “I believe by then George will be World Champion which would make this fight one of the biggest the country has ever seen.”

Maidana Expecting Many Big Exchanges With Josesito                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66321#ixzz2VUsvol9X

By Francisco Salazar

Welterweight contender Marcos Maidana makes for exciting fights. Victor Ortiz. Amir Khan. Erik Morales.

One consistent thing about Maidana in those fights was his ability to change the fight with one punch. Whether it was a knockdown or a fighter getting hurt, Maidana was dangerous from the opening bell until that fighter was able to make it to the final bell.

Then there was that fight against Devon Alexander last February. Maidana was outboxed throughout 10 rounds in losing a wide decision to the southpaw Alexander.

Rather than rely on something that may not work, Maidana felt a change was needed to add another element to his power.

So far, so good with trainer Robert Garcia.

Maidana will fight Josesito Lopez this Saturday night in a scheduled 12 round bout at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. The bout is an anticipated match-up between two fighters with a fan-friendly style and will be for a minor title.

The bout will headline a Golden Boy Promotions card and will be televised live on Showtime.

Maidana (33-3, 30 KOs) will have Garcia in his corner on Saturday night when he steps inside the ring on Saturday night. Although he calls Buenos Aires, Argentina home, Maidana moved to Oxnard, CA, where he trains out of the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy.

Since having Garcia as a trainer, he has won his last two bouts. Never in a bad fight and in one of the best action fights of 2013, Maidana stopped Jesus Soto-Karass in the eighth round on September 15th. In his last bout on December 12th, Maidana knocked out Angel Martinez in the third round.

Although Maidana has been with Garcia for about a year, he believes he has become a better all-around fighter. Maidana understands he has exceptional power, but has improved on his boxing skills with Garcia and is confident he could apply that effectively during a fight.

“I have learned a lot under Robert Garcia,” Maidana told Boxingscene.com over the phone on Tuesday morning. “We have worked on a lot of things and I see the difference with what I have learned. I’ve worked hard in perfecting how to set up and throw punches. I will demonstrate what I have learned on Saturday night.”

Maidana will face the popular Lopez, who based on his grit, tenacity, and heart, is known as the “Riverside Rocky.” Lopez (30-5, 18 KOs) is coming off a fifth round stoppage loss at the hands of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 15th.

Fight fans and media alike have been eagerly anticipating what could be a war in the ring between the fighters, based on their styles and previous fights.

Along with Lopez, Maidana feels much more comfortable at 147 pounds. Maidana believes stylistically, his fight with Lopez will be a solid fight.

“I know this will be a good fight,” said Maidana, who shares in common with Lopez stoppage victories over Victor Ortiz. “I know Josesito will be well-prepared for this fight. He takes a punch and is a very good fighter. I have seen his fights and I anticipate a lot of exchanges with him for this fight.”

Maidana aims to have the same, if not more success as his fellow countrymen in Sergio Martinez and Lucas Matthysse of coming to the Oxnard area to train and win significant bouts in their career.

A victory over Lopez will solidify him as one of the better fighters at the welterweight division, where he could challenge a world title belt holder.

Although fight fans eagerly anticipate an all-out action war between Maidana and Lopez, it would be intriguing to see how well Maidana has improved under Garcia.

Regardless, fight fans and the sport of boxing will win out on Saturday should Maidana and Lopez live up to the hype on Saturday night. Maidana believes the hard work he put in during training camp for Lopez will be good for him and boxing.

“I sparred a lot against different styles during training camp. I’m in good condition and Oxnard is a great place to train because it is tranquil and the climate is good. I feel very good leading up to the fight on Saturday.”

Khan, Alexander Both on Board For December 7th Clash                                                                                                                                          Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66317#ixzz2VUtDRchA

Amir Khan is being lined up for a world title shot against the IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander in December, possibly in Dubai.

Golden Boy's chief executive Richard Schaefer says he is hoping to set up a December 7 clash against American Alexander when he travels to Dubai next month.

Alexander has a record of 25 wins from 26 bouts, with 14 victories coming inside the distance and was supposed to have fought unbeaten Sheffield boxer Kell Brook last month but the fight was called off after being postponed for a third time.

Schaefer told Sky Sports' Ringside: "I know Devon is on board, Amir is on board (and) we're thinking December 7 for the fight.

"So now what we're looking at is a possibly that the fight will be in Dubai if we can structure it in a way that it is enticing for Devon Alexander to go there.

"I'm actually going to be going to Dubai and meet with the people there in July and will find out if we can get a deal done for the world title fight to be in Dubai which would be spectacular."

Alexander won the IBF title from American compatriot Randall Bailey last October after battling his way back to the top since his only defeat, to Tim Bradley in January 2011.

Colchester welterweight Lee Purdy, the injured Brook's replacement, was pulled out after seven rounds of his non-title bout against Alexander in Atlantic City, New Jersey last month after being outboxed by the US southpaw.

Purdy had failed to make the weight but there should be no such problems for Khan, himself on a road back to redemption.

The Bolton man climbed off the canvas impressively to beat Mexico's Julio Diaz in April in Brook's hometown of Sheffield in his latest victory.

He had lost his WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles to Lamont Peterson in 2011 in Washington DC, before being reinstated as champion after the American failed a drugs test.

However, the 26-year-old Englishman lost the belts again in July 2012 when he was stopped in round four by Philadelphia's Danny Garcia.

Martinez Hits NYC, Plans To Meet With HBO                                                                                                                                                            Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66315#ixzz2VUtkEIDK

New York, NY - Middleweight kingpin Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez (51-2-2, 28KO's) touched down in NYC early yesterday, and will spend the week here, attending a number of business meetings before heading to Canastota for this weekend's annual International Boxing Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

"I am honored to be invited again to the International Boxing Hall of Fame, and I am looking forward to participating in the weekend's festivities and meeting all of the boxing fans that will be in attendance," said the WBC champion and one of boxing's top pound-for-pound fighters in the world Martinez.  Martinez will attend the weekend festivities with promoter Lou DiBella and longtime advisors Sampson Lewkowicz and Nathan Lewkowicz.

On April 27, Argentine-native Martinez successfully defended his championship for the sixth time in a glorious homecoming televised live on HBO, in front of 50,000 rabid Argentineans at the country's famed Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, in Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina, against England's Martin Murray. Last night, Martinez met with HBO executives last night, to begin discussions for his next title defense.  Likely to take place in early 2014, Sergio's next bout will be his 11th straight on HBO, since first appearing on the network in2008.  Martinez hasn't lost since 2009 when he dropped a highly disputed majority decision to Paul Williams in what was named the 2009 "Fight of the Year".  Martinez avenged that defeat one year later with a scintillating second-round KO over Williams. The one-punch KO was hailed as 2010's "Knockout of the Year".  Martinez' last seven opponents (in order: Kelly Pavlik, Paul Williams, Serhiy Dzinziruk, Darren Barker, Matthew Macklin, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Murray) have had an astonishing combined record of 234-5-2, with Dzinziruk, Barker, Chavez Jr. and Murray all coming in undefeated.

In addition to meeting with HBO and attending to other business, Martinez plans on dropping by Macklin's training camp to wish his former foe, and now friend, luck for his upcoming title challenge against Gennady "GGG" Golovkin on June 29, live on HBO at the MGM Grand Theaterat Foxwoods ® Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Macklin, who recently opened his brand new state-of-the-art training facility in Martinez' adopted country of Spain, is now preparing for the world championship matchup in NYC with head trainer Buddy McGirt.

CRMartin11 - Random question but I just watched Canelo vs Trout for the first time and I had it scored a draw. Curious what others first scoring of the fight was?

I didn't give Canelo a 10-8 did anyone give him a 10-8?

I thought the fight was so close I could understand someone scoring the fight 2 rounds for Alvarez or 2 rounds for Trout even.

Yea I gave Canelo a 10-8
I think I scored it 7-5 rds for Canelo.

well the thing with Floyd, if he sees one ounce of opportunity to take you up on a challenge (in his favor), he'll do it. Canelo said he'd fight Floyd at 150, from last year. Floyd being Floyd, he called his bluff, so they came to an agreement of 152 pounds. Hypocrite or not, Canelo can easily make 152.

but from what I understand, the titles are on the line.

Crawford Talks Bradley-Marquez, Broner-Malignaggi                                                                                                                                                  Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66334#ixzz2VZeLcEHD

By Ryan Burton

Budding lightweight prospect Terence Crawford (20-0) stopped by BoxingScene Radio to discuss a number of topics including his June 15th HBO televised fight against  Alejandro Sanabria.

Crawford burst onto the scene with his dominating unaimous decision victory over Breidis Prescott this past March. Crawford took a risk by moving up to the junior welterweight division for the opportunity to fight on HBO. That risk paid off for the Nebraska native as he thoroughly outboxed his bigger and stronger opponent.

In many of his fights Crawford has stayed in the pocket landing big shots that have knocked his opponents out.  I asked Crawford if we can expect to see that the style again since he will be fighting in his natural weight class.

"It depends on what my opponent brings to the table. Do I need to box or open up and throw big shots? I don't just stand there and trade. I like to hit and not get hit. I look at what my opponent is doing in the ring," Crawford explained.

The 25-year-old said that he didn't feel much of a difference fighting at 140 pounds versus fighting at 135. WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner will take it a step further by moving all the weigh up to 147 pounds to challenge Paulie Malignaggi for his WBA welterweight title. Crawford thinks that Broner will perform well at the higher weight.

"The extra five pounds, I didn't really feel the difference because I was already sparring middleweights," Crawford said.  "Broner is going up to 147 and he is strong, his opponent Paulie isn't known as being a big puncher so that is the perfect fight at that weight."

I also asked Crawford for his opinion on the October clash between Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley. Crawford has sparred with Bradley and the WBO welterweight champion has touted Crawford as a future champion.

"That is a great fight. I think who ever can stay on their game plan will be the winner. Tim is a great boxer and so is Marquez. Marquez is a great counter puncher too. Bradley is going to have to be on point to come out with the win," Crawford told BoxingScene Radio.
