Abril is Ready, Eager To Unify With Ricky Burns                                                                                                                                                        Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66510#ixzz2VyA9ZgCB

Cuba's Richard "El Tigre" Abril (18-3-1, 8KOs), the WBA's lightweight world champion and Scottish boxer Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO's) the current WBO lightweight titleholder could face each other in a unification bout. Both fighters expressed their desire for the fight on Twitter, according to Abril's promoter Mr. Carlos Rodriguez from Miami.

Rodriguez added - "We are ready to match Richard Abril against Burns. We have received some messages from Burns' manager and hopefully we reach an agreement that satisfies both sides. Let’s make this fight to determine which of the two is the best."

"It was difficult to get opponents for Richard since the fight with Brandon Rios. Abril worked hard to defeat Sharif Bogere to capture a world title and he was stripped of a clear victory against Rios, and that says a lot about his value as a boxer - but it also speaks a lot about the opponents who do not want get into the ring against Abril."

"If Burns and his team want to unify and want recognition in America, Abril is willing to fight at any time. You have to make these types of fight, because we believe that boxing fans are expecting to see this kind of war where two champions are eager to impose their styles and maintain supremacy."

In his last fight in March, Abril defeated Sharif Bogere by unanimous decision to win the WBA world title.

"Since the win over Bogere I said that a fight with Ricky Burns is in our plans. Now, there is a possibility and we are ready to fight him and establish ourselves as one of the strongest champions of the lightweight class," Abril said.

you can't challenge Floyd at a catch weight, because he'll call your bluff...I don't usually take things literal with Floyd. But Canelo weighed a 153 pounds against Trout. He can easily make 152, we know there's MMA fighters and Boxers that jump around in multiple weight classes.

I think the non Floyd fans don't really care it's at 152, they just want to point out he's a hypocrite.

HARTFORD --  Famed rapper and new boxing promoter, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, held a press conference today in Hartford to announce that his company, SMS Promotions, will present the "50 Cent's Birthday Bash" professional boxing event, July 5 live on ESPN Friday Night Fights, at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

Headlining the stacked ESPN Friday Night Fights show, the first solo promotion by SMS Promotions, is an exciting 10-round clash between undefeated North American Boxing Organization (NABO) and North American Boxing Association (NABA) light heavyweight champion Eleider "Storm" Alvarez (12-0, 8 KOs) and former world super middleweight title challenger Allan "Ghost Dog" Green (32-4, 22 KOs).

The fast-rising, explosive Alvarez (12-0-0, 8 KOs), a 2008 Colombian Olympian who lives in Montreal, is on his way to positioning himself for a world title shot. Already ranked No. 4 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and No. 7 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), he is stepping up in class to face Green (32-4-0, 22 KOs), fighting out of Tulsa (OK), who fought in the Super Six tournament.

The 10-round ESPN co-feature showcases former International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight champion Billy "The Kid" Dib (35-2, 21 KOs) in a 10-round bout against Hartford favorite "Machine Gun" Mike Oliver (25-3, 8 KOs).  A native of Australia, Dib is coming off a highly-competitive, fan-friendly fight on March 1, also shown on ESPN Friday Night Fights, in which he lost a 12-round split decision and his IBF belt to undefeated Russian Evgeny Gradovich (18-0).

Dib is the No. 4-rated featherweight in the world by the IBF, as well as ranked No. 7 by The Ring Magazine, and No. 15 by the WBO.  Oliver is a former International Boxing Organization (IBO) and United States Boxing Association (USBA) super bantamweight champion.

Unbeaten lightweight prospect Mark "Too Sharp" Davis (16-0, 5 KOs) meets Danish Robert "Super" Osobe (14-5-4, 6 KOs), fighting out of Las Vegas, in an eight-round bound. The 26-year-old Davis, of Baton Rouge (LA), has been inactive since November 12, 2011, when he won a 10-round unanimous decision over Guillermo Sanchez.  Davis was a highly-decorated amateur who captured gold medals at the 2005 and 2006 U.S. National Championships.

Undefeated Puerto Rican welterweight Javier "El Chino" Flores (9-0, 8 KOs), fighting out of Hartford, takes on Rogelio De la Torre (10-3, 6 KOs), of Houston, in a six-round bout.

Also fighting on the undercard in four rounds bouts are hot prospects such as Arizona light welterweight Luis Olivares (3-0, 2 KOs) vs. undefeated Puerto Rican Jonathan Perez (4-0, 2 KOs), and Cincinnati native Donte Strayhorn, a talented light welterweight now based out of Las Vegas vs. Hartford's Oscar Diaz (0-1), as well as New Haven featherweight Nate Green (3-0, 1 KO) vs. Micah Branch (1-6-1), of Cincinnati, New Haven (CT) super bantamweight Jimmy Williams vs. TBA, plus pro-debuting light middleweights David Wilson, of New Haven, and Woburn's (MA) Rodrigo Almeida.

All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Dib, Davis, Olivares, and Strayhorn are promoted by 50 Cent.

Tickets are priced at $150.00, $100.00, $60.00 and $35.00 (SOLD OUT) and available to purchase at Connecticut Convention Center (860-728-2625) or by calling Mike Criscio (203-627-7472).  There is a 10-percent surcharge on all sold tickets.  A $150.00 ticket entitles the bearer to free admission to 50 Cent's post-fight party at the Connecticut Convention Center.  Admission to the post fight party is $30.00 per person at the door for those without a fight ticket, or $20.00 for all tickets excluding $150.00.

Robert Stieglitz-Yuzo Kiyota Clash Set For July 13                                                                                                                                                      Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66535#ixzz2W4EjnRRd

By Per Ake Persson

WBO super middleweight champ Robert Stieglitz defends the title against Japanese challenger Yuzo Kiyota, who´s a rather unknown force with no fights outside of Japan, on July 13 in the headliner of SES´ big show in Dresden. Unknown doen´t have to mean poor though and Kiyota comes in with a respectable record of 23-5.

It´s already been announced that female champs Ramona Kuehne and Christina Hammer will defend their respective titles but no opponents have been announced.

Same goes for WBO Euro middleweight champ Lukas Konecny, who will defend his title in a supporting bout.

Lightheavy Robin Krasniqi is featured on the undercard in his first fight since losing to WBO king Nathan Cleverly.

Angulo Provides Update on His Eye Injury                                                                                                                                                                 Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66531#ixzz2W4ExWbcF

Los Angeles, CA - "I want to thank all of my fans for their support in the wake of my eye injury this past weekend.  I have undergone various medical examinations which I am glad to report revealed no broken bones.  California State Athletic Commission physician Dr. Pearlman Hicks has informed me that I only suffered a contusion and my eye specialist thankfully sees no permanent injury to my eye.

I want to thank all of you for the love and support you have given me the past few days.  I would also like to congratulate Erislandy Lara on a great fight.  I'm sad that I disappointed all my fans by not giving them an "El Perro" victory as I truly believe I was on the verge of knocking Lara down for the third time and winning the fight.  The sharp pain of his thumb in my eye caused me to turn my back out of reflex and I could not see out of my left eye.  I accept the decision made by the referee to stop the fight and look forward to getting back in the ring in the future.  I will be back to give you a better show in my next fight."

Jose Luis Castillo: Canelo Can Defeat Mayweather                                                                                                                                                    Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66551#ixzz2W8aPewuF

By Salvador Rodriguez

The man who many believe did enough to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) on April 20, 2002 - Mexico's Jose Luis Castillo - believes WBC/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) can do enough to unseat the pound-for-pound king on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It won't be easy and Castillo says the 22-year-old champion will have to use the right tactics.

"I did everything humanly possible to win that day, and I think I won the fight," Castillo said. "I demonstrated, I believe, that Mayweather was not invincible, but he is a great fighter. He is very complete, good stamina, fast. I think he should be in the top five in the world in boxing history."

"I think that my style was complicated for Mayweather, and I do not believe that it was only matter of luck for. Back then he was moving more and now he seems to stand in one spot more often. Canelo will have to work on covering [Mayweather's] exits so he can't get away. That gave me results."

"I think the weight advantage is in favor Canelo, if it does not affect him to come down to [152-pounds]. I hope he prepares very well because he will be going into the fight of his life."

Abraham-Shihepo on 8/24, Boytsov, Charr, Hryunov                                                                                                                                                 Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66554#ixzz2W8amEpUq

By Alexey Sukachev

It had been announced by Denis Lebedev recently that he was breaking up his relationship with notorious Russian promoter Vladimir Hryunov, who was one to guide him to the world championship level in just two or three years following a lengthy lay-off, for personal reasons.

It looks like Hryunov isn’t paid any attention to what Denis has said. “Lebedev vs. Jones showdown will have a very interesting continuation”, promised Hryunov, having been quoted by Allboxing.ru. He didn’t get into the details. Lebedev (25-2, 19 KOs) lost a memorable grueling war to Guillermo Jones (39-3-2, 32 KOs) in May on his home turf in what is considered by many to be a frontrunner for the 2013 FOTY award.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to Armenpress.am, WBO #7 Namibian Willbeforce Shihepo (20-6, 15 KOs) can kick off a comeback tour for the two-division former champion King Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KOs), which is planned to begin on Aug. 24 in Schwerin, Germany.

WBO #4 Abraham is coming off the first stoppage loss in his career (although injury-induced) – to bitter rival Robert Stieglitz from this March. Shihepo is 7-0 recently (mostly in Namibia) and hasn’t lost a fight since being DQed in 2009 against Emanuel Duma. He has fought (and lost) to Isaac Chilemba and Stanislav Kashtanov among others but proved to be a durable opponent.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rumours are circulating that still-to-be-defeated Russian heavyweight Denis Boytsov (32-0, 25 KOs) can be back to the ring as soon as this Saturday under Hako Sevecke against an opponent to be announced. Boytsov’s fight can be part of the evening at Karl Eckel Halle at Hattersheim am Main, which is said to be crowned by WBC #8 Manuel Charr’s fight against Ukrainian veteran Oleksiy Mazikin.

As for Boytsov, he is ranked #3 by the WBO but lost his high places in other ranks because of his lengthy (unjury-induced) lay-off.

Warren: Hearn Rejects Big Frampton vs. Quigg Offer                                                                                                                                                Article Link - http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=66570#ixzz2W8bDDsxq

Frank Warren today made a big offer to Eddie Hearn for his latest signing Scott Quigg to fight Carl Frampton in September 2013, but surprisingly Hearn replied saying that a September date was a little too soon for Quigg.

Earlier this month Warren made Carl Froch a multi-million pound offer to fight WBO Light-Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly only for the offer to be declined by Hearn.

Warren stated “How can any boxer not be ready for a fight in three months, especially with a contest already scheduled for two weeks? Only yesterday Hearn said in an interview that both fighters wanted it and that it was not the Boxers, but their teams that were preventing it from happening. Well if Frampton wants it, his team want it and, according to Hearn, Quigg wants it also, then what does that tell you?”

I'm with you on that buddy, the only reason I'd wish the fight was at 54', so the haters wouldn't complain immediately about the catch weight...they ignore the fact the fight is happening.

Floyd did bring it on himself. He talked trash about fighting people at their comfortable weight (unlike Pac) so now he looks like a hypocrite.

It's a shame because all he had to do to keep the haters' mouths shut is just have the bout at 154. The critics would be beside themselves right now, gnashing their teeth in frustration because they wouldn't have anything bad they could say about this matchup.

If cutting 2lbs will break Alvarez, he should be campaigning as a Middleweight. Ridiculous to say Manny "drained" Cotto by making him drop, so Floyd is reaping what he's sown now. Bogus issue but valid to point out his hypocrisy. Phone Post

As far as the catch weight, talk

Cotto signed on to fight Pac at the catch weight(152?). Canelo signed on to fight Floyd at catch weight of 152. Its Prizefighting and money talks. Both guys agreed to the catch weight so dropping extra lbs should not be used as an excuse after the fight.

Floyd is going to get shit because he gave Pacman a bunch of shit when he fought Cotto.

I am going to be super excited when this fight goes down. Floyd is the Best in the game, Canelo is young, hungry, bigger and improving each time out imo. I give Floyd the edge, but will be rooting for Canelo.

I cannot wait for the Lopez vs Garcia fight this weekend! That fight should have some fireworks going off inside the ring.

EDIT TO ADD: I picked Lopez in 6 in my pool, but not overly confident in my choice of round, or fighter for that matter.

De La Hoya made Hopkins come down from 160 to 158 for his belt, and we all know how that turned out. So it's not at all an unreasonable request to make from someone who can't even make 151 with his shorts on vs a guy who cuts from 170. But, as others have pointed out, it's the hypocrisy that irks me.

Garcia is 2 pounds over right now, Juanma weighed in at 125.5 pounds, Garcia 128.

and the Cotto/Pac fight was at 145 pounds.

Hopkins vs DLH is more comparable because the champion of the division made his challenger come down in weight, compared to the challenger making the champion come down in weight in the Cotto vs Pacquiao fight.

The word is that Mikey Garcia has lost the title on the scales. If he wins the championship becomes vacant.

Very unprofessional of him.

yep, he didn't try to make the weight.

Murat/Hopkins is cancelled over Visa issues...so Hopkins is skipping Murat and returning in Sept against either Stevenson, Cleverly or Shumenov.
