thanks for the support Subb, I'm all about constructive criticism from everyone...it's welcomed.

yes, Roach said the reason Shiming slowed down, he ate a candy bar before the fight, which messed with his blood sugar....Roach wanted him to eat a bowl of rice.

I never heard of this bothering anyone, it's just a candy bar lol.

I'll say it again, if you're going to shoulder roll that close to your opponent.....Virgil Hill is not your guy IMO. Why not go to the experts? A Mayweather or a defensive based trainer for the shoulder roll. You're getting hit too much and laying on the ropes, the repeated knockdowns are big in long term damage. Make a big career change based on that, none of the stats on paper are there for Berto to retire. They all say he's fit to go (age, losses, opponents, etc.)

But Tbi, I recognize why you wan't him out. But at the same time you can't walk away from your life's work comfortably after 3 losses, not back to back. IMO he should take some lesser opponents and sharpen up technically and come back. Felt the same way about Ricky Hatton but he had it in his head that he was coming back for a title after all that shit somehow. Was devastated when the Hitman went down for the 10

You made a fair point. I guess I see a lot of Jeff Lacy in Berto.

This was great thanks for posting the links. It brought back a lot of good memories to see those fighters, it's a pity Benn wasn't there.

Did any of you American fans know who these guys were back in the mid-late 90's (excluding RJJ)?

Always wondered how Americans rated them. Even back then, I always thought they'd get destroyed by RJJ and Toney but Im surprised they didn't get to fight at least 1 of them in their heyday.

They might have been on a lower level to Jones and Toney but they put on great fights against each other. Great era for the Super MW div in Britain/Ireland.

Broner: After B*tch Maidana, I'll F*** Matthysse Up!

By Edward Chaykovsky

WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 24KOs) lashed out at his critics on the social networks. Broner is being lined up for a Showtime televised date in November. He also sent a few parting shots at Marcos Maidana and his Argentine countryman Lucas Matthysse. Golden Boy Promotions would like to match Broner and Maidana in November. Matthysse challenges Broner's friend, WBA/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia, on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"I see a lot of people hating on me and my decisions. Well listen, I ain't perfect but I know one thing I'm UNDEFEATED and young and on top. I'm on one of the biggest tours this year. I'm blessed..... I love my haters and the ones who love me. You're a damn fool if you think Maidana can beat me. And when I'm done when this b*tch Maidana, I'm [going to] go f*** Matthysse up," Broner vented.

Pulev vs. Thompson Now Official For 8/24 Tripleheader

Fight fans can look forward to a real stacked up card on August 24. With European Light Heavyweight Champion Juergen Braehmer defending his title (against Stefano Abatangelo) and super-middleweight contender Arthur Abraham (against Willbeforce Shihepo) trying to get in position for another world title shot, the show is already loaded with highlights. Now the Sport- und Kongresshalle Schwerin will also play host to a special heavyweight attraction. Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO´s) and Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO´s) will fight it out in an IBF final eliminator with the winner to challenge for the world title.

Pulev, maybe the most avoided heavyweight in recent times, cannot wait to step into the ring again. In 2012, the current IBF International and European Champion made it to the top of the rankings, beating Michael Sprott, Alexander Dimitrenko as well as Alexander Ustinov - all of them inside the distance. But as fighters like Tomasz Adamek, Tyson Fury and Ruslan Chagaev refused to be matched with the 32-year-old Bulgarian, his career came to a brief halt at the start of 2013.

"It seemed nearly impossible to find an opponent for Kubrat," said Chris Meyer, general manager of Sauerland Event. "But thanks to Tony Thompson, that's old news. The winner of Pulev vs. Thompson will be the new IBF mandatory challenger."

Thompson will be the toughest test of Pulev's career to date. The 41-year-old is not only a southpaw but he has also fought Wladimir Klitschko twice. That gives him an edge in experience over the man from Sofia. He recently shattered the dreams of British hopeful David Price, knocking him out on February 23 and July 6. Still, Pulev is optimistic to come out as a winner against the American: "If I want to fight for the world championship, I have to beat Thompson. That's exactly what I will do on August 24!"

DiBella, 50 Cent To Stage Card on Aug. 14 in New York

New York, NY - On Wednesday, August 14, DiBella Entertainment (DBE) and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson's SMS Promotions will return to B.B. King Blues Club and Grill for the latest edition of NYC's popular Broadway Boxing series.  The card will feature a number of DBE's and SMS's top up-and-coming talent and New York fan-favorites, as well as a couple of exciting new additions to the DBE roster.

"It means so much to me that I am able to bring the excitement of boxing to New York, my hometown. We have some of the best up-and-coming fighters in the industry and I'm looking forward to showcasing them on the next installment of Broadway Boxing. It's going to be a great night," said Jackson.

"Broadway Boxing has become one of the hot tickets in NYC and it will rock B.B. King's on August 14," said DiBella. "The Blues Club is a great venue for boxing," DiBella added, "but tickets and space are limited. You won't be able to get your tickets at the door, so make sure to order them fast as general admissions have already completely sold out."

Both New York natives Tor Hamer (20-2, 13KO's) and Boyd Melson (11-1-1, 4KO's) will see action on the card in separate eight-round bouts. The heavyweight Hamer will face off against hard-hitting Kertson Manswell (23-7, 17KO's), while Melson will fight a rematch against Brooklyn's Jason Thompson (5-6-3, 4KO's). Melson and Thompson fought to an entertaining six-round draw last year, and with both fighters claiming they were the rightful winner, you can expect them to put it all on the line come August 14.

Hamer went 6-1 in 2012, a year that included winning the Heavyweight Prizefighter Tournament in England.  Hamer was positioning himself for a major fight in the heavyweight division before losing to fellow contender and former amateur standout Vyacheslav Glazkov.  In the bout against Glazkov, Hamer got off to a good start, before being forced to retire on his stool after the fourth round. It was later discovered that Hamer had been suffering from the flu just days prior to the bout.  He returned with a vengeance earlier this year in May with a vicious third-round TKO over Maurenzo Smith and is looking stay busy for the remainder of the year in hopes of working his way back into contention.

Luis Olivares (4-0, 3KO's) and Donte Strayhorn (2-1), both out of the SMS stable, will also see action on the card in separate four-round bouts.

Making their DBE debuts will be recently signed super middleweight Lennox "2 Sharpe" Allen (16-0-1, 10KO's), who returns to the ring for the first time in a little over a year, and Florida's hard-hitting promising lightweight Amos "2 Smooth" Cowart (7-0, 5KO's).   Allen is set to take on an opponent TBA, while Cowart will square off against former NY Golden Gloves Champion Chazz McDowell (6-3, 1KO).  Both bouts are scheduled for six rounds.

Additional bouts on the card, including opponents for the above listed fighters will be announced shortly.

The card is promoted by DiBella Entertainment and SMS Promotions and sponsored by SMS Audio, Manfredi Auto Group, Newlio.com, and Everlast. SNY will broadcast the event tape-delayed.

Question. If Broner does manage to pull off these top level wins, and Mayweather really does fulfill all of the fights remaining on his said contract........do they really not meet up? I see this as a potential high money fight if the wins are there and they can play the friendship into 'student turned on teacher' and all.

Roy Jones Jr pre 2003 would have knocked Calzaghe and everyone else in that interview the fuck out. No disrespect. I'm a big Calzaghe fan, he was a very smart fighter, but he didn't have the power or chin to hang with Roy.

The rest of the boxers Eubank, Colins etc are world class former champs, but they weren't ever as good as RJJ in his prime. There were some fights pre 2003 RJJ didn't take, but I think they were all business decisions. He wasn't running from anyone.

Roy's prime was 97-99 when he toyed with Reggie Johnson for 12 rounds or when he destroyed Griffin in their rematch. The British super middles like Benn, Eubank and Collins, Watson were on the back end of their careers by then or retired. Roy was awesome back then but there is no excuse for Frazier, Kelly, Telesco etc.... Or as the boxing writes of the day called it, bum of the month competition. Dariusz Michalczewski, or an earlier rematch with Hopkins probably the only real fights he avoided. Prime RJJ would have toyed with the German based Pole. But would no fight in Germany despite the potential for much bigger dollars.

darius wouldn't leave germany, and he knew that was non negotiable with roy. and bernard avoided rjj. bernard was demanding 50-50 at a time when he was not a draw and would be the challenger and roy clearly beat him with no controversy. hopkins demands to be treated as if he and roy were equal was laughable. and bernard was in bed with king. rjj always had a simple mesage for don king, write me a check for the amount and give me the date and location to show up at. no negotiations, no placing the money into special escrow accounts managed and maintained by don's son, no percentage on the back end with don keeping the books, no options on future fights. no games
