Lots of Ronda threads and Women's MMA in UFC threads but didn't see this one anywhere.

Manager disputes report claiming Ronda Rousey has joined UFC

The manager for top female MMA star Ronda Rousey disputes a TMZ.com report claiming Rousey has officially joined the UFC.

"Right now, nothing has changed," says Darin Harvey of Fight Tribe, noting that Rousey is in Las Vegas to fly with the Thunderbirds, the Air Force demonstration squadron, and not to sign a UFC contract.

While the deal with the UFC isn't official, it seems inevitable.

Late last month, UFC president Dana White told SI, "Ronda Rousey will be the first UFC women's champion." White, who had repeatedly rejected the idea of women fighting in the UFC, said he'd changed his thinking and a women's UFC division was "absolutely" going to happen. White credited Rousey with his about face on women fighters. "She's a real fighter down to the core."

Since making her professional debut in March 2011, Rousey has emerged as the sport's most popular athlete -- a rare mix of dominance in the cage and a verbosity and charisma outside of it. She's obliterated each of her six pro opponents in the first round, winning each match via her trademark armbar. Only one opponent, wrestling specialist Miesha Tate, has survived longer than a minute in the cage against Rousey.

No immediate plans for another Rousey fight are finalized, though rumored potential opponents include ex-Strikeforce middleweight champ Cris "Cyborg" Santos, 2004 Olympic wrestling silver medalist, Sara McMann, or a rematch with former Strikeforce bantamweight champion, Tate, from whom Rousey claimed the belt in one of the most gruesome submissions in MMA history.

I dont think he is lying, the deal with SF was that certain fighters cant sign with the UFC while SF is on Showtime, well SF has a contract with SF doesnt it?

ITs only a matter of time until she is officially signed but you probably wont get an official signing until the deal is finished after the last event in Jan.

Damn, harsh. I simply cited the article from SportsIllustrated.com that literally was just posted because I hadn't seen it over here yet.

Hey may have been referring to the TMZ article...

Either way, this sounds more like a "I don't think we are allowed to talk about it yet" type thing. Good find.

Entirely possible, they've been big about announcing their own fights and everything else. They like to control their media and distribute it when it's in their best interest, would be something that would make 154 even bigger.

Agreed. Brigham said he thinks they want to announce it in Montreal, would add to 154 if they do it, makes sense.

Technically she may have not signed but it is just a formality. Strikeforce is done and RR fights for the UFC. Phone Post

 From Kevin Iole:

Clearly, the Strikeforce bantamweight champion was exhilarated by her ride with the Thunderbirds, though she wasn't so thrilled to talk about whether her next mixed martial arts fight will be in the UFC.

RStill wearing her Air Force jump suit, Rousey did what she called her "I-don't-know-anything dance" when she was asked whether she was aware of reports that Strikeforce would fold early next year and that she'd be in the UFC.

"Seriously?" she said when asked about the reports. "If anything were going to be released, do you think they'd do it through me on your iPhone in this hangar?"

Nice post Kirik, that sounds to me like she's playing dumb / denying it too.

zuffa already owns her contract (and every other sf fighters contract)... all it would take is SF's last show on showtime and a bout agreement and she'd fight in the UFC.  Since SF's last show will be in january all you now need is a date after january and an opponent and she'd be in the ufc.

She doesnt need to sign a new contract to fight in the UFC unless zuffa wants more fights or any additional ancillary rights they dont already have.

as far as any remaining obligations strikeforce has for showtime...  the deal called for 6 events (up to 8) making the january event the 6th which fulfills that term.

The reason why the news is leaking now is likely because the UFC wants to make the most out of this PR situation instead of showtime creating the narrative.

Showtime is essentially left holding it's dick in it's hand.

This.

week later "UFC BUYS [insert mma org]!"

Exactly. Announcement likely comes at 154, if not before, but the UFC will break it not TMZ. That's what they are trying to accomplish .
