English motherfucker, do you speak it? Maybe you should play soccer. And move to europe.

We don't take kindly to foreign talk round these parts.

English is the language of England and his post makes perfect sense to me ;) He's just over 6' and about 210lbs

All i understand from that post is 6' and 210lbs. The rest is gibberish.

You speak welsh right? Is that what that is?

English people use feet and inches and stones and lbs.

You'll probably confuse them with this fancy metric nonsense

One advantage of kilos in the gym is that calculating your weight is super easy on a metric set.

Seriously, instead of adding up 5's and 10's and 45's and shit, it's all very basic. 5, 10, 20. So easy even a retarded Planet Fagness gym goer could do it.

Lol when i think about weight of people i think stones and lbs but when i think about weight in the gym i think kgs.

Stones are easy. Its the same measurement as lbs just a way of grouping them Phone Post

Edward III.

Weirdly a stone used to be a variable measurement depending on the product. A stone of beef was 8 lbs, a stone of wax 12 lbs and a stone of wool 14lbs. For some reason the wool stone caught on........

Useless fact of the day! Phone Post

Wasn't the UK at one point the major wool producing country in the world? That would probably explain the use of the wool stone...

But yeah... Isn't the standard large plate a 45 because of the metric 20? I'm sure if it wasn't for that we would have gone with a 50 and life would have been a little easier.

I take it as a point of pride that i need to be good at math while working out though ;)

technically, 20 kilos is 44 pounds. 45 is 20.4 kilos. I guess even then, we somehow fuck it up.

I wonder what the degree of tolerance is for manufacturers of weights?

If you make weights it would suck having to have separate casts for 45lbs and 44lbs.

If they use the same casts, 2% is pretty significant variance

Seano, I have read that it depends on both the manufacturer and the level of the plate.

For example, an Olympic or other high level competition requires plates that are within a very very tight tolerance (I think I read 100 g).

On the other hand, I read also that your average sporting goods store quality plate can have a tolerance of 5 percent or even for some cheap shit ones 10 percent. So yeah, for those guys, it may be the only difference between a 20 kilo and a 45 pound cast is the paint job they put on the damned thing.
