Alert fans on the UG noticed that the UFC was promoting Alistair Overeem's return to the Octagon, but was silent on Nick Diaz.

Both Alistair Overeem and Nick Diaz are currently under suspensions issued by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). Overeem's was for a positive test for elevated testosterone at a surprise test, while Diaz tested for elevated marijuana metabolites, for the second time. Both fighters appeared before the commission to plead their case.

Overeem was apologetic and concilliatory before the board, while Nick Diaz was, well, more Nick Diaz. Since the initial hearing Overeem has voluntarily had himself tested, while the Diaz camp filed suit over the suspension.

The UFC has been granted permission to promote 'Reem's fight with Bigfoot in Feb (although the Dutchman still has to apply for a license). On the return of Nick Diaz, the company has been silent.

UFC President Dana White offered some explanation for the promotion of Overeem at the UFC 154 post-fight press con.

"We asked the commission, can we start setting up a fight for him," said White, who added "but he’s still got to go before the commission."

"I think Alistair has been doing the right thing as far as the commission is concerned and doing all the things that he needs to do to get back in their good graces. It’s looking positive and optimistic because he’s been doing what he’s supposed to do."

Would it work the same way for Diaz White was asked?

"Nope," he replied bluntly.

White did not say whether or not they had even requested permission from the NSAC to promote Diaz's return bout, but it looks like we will be hearing about that after his suspension is lifted on February 4, 2013.

In good news, during an interview with MMAJunkie's Steven Marrocco, NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer said the UFC can promote both Overeem or Diaz, with caveats.

The UFC can promote Alistair Overeem and Nick Diaz for bouts next year "as long as Zuffa makes quite clear that there's an added piece to that puzzle," said Kizer today.

In Overeem's case, that means getting a license to fight in Nevada. For Diaz, it's scheduling him after his suspension ends.

Kizer said that the commission doesn't have an issue with booking Diaz as long as the fight isn't within the term of his suspension.

"As long as the fight was after the suspension ended, there wouldn't be a problem with that," he said. "But obviously a fighter fighting while on suspension somewhere else, I wouldn't approve the fight."

Kizer also noted that all 2012 Nevada licensees, including Diaz, will need to reapply in 2013. Because Diaz has twice been suspended for marijuana, he will need to appear before the commission before being licensed in the state.

It is because Nick and Cesar went to battle with the NSAC instead of just staying mum, training in the gym,
and waiting it out.

Then again, missing a presser for a $$$ fight with GSP shows either Nick is a flake or Cesar is one.
Same goes with trying to sue an athletic commission
over a second fail weed test.

I am huge Nick Diaz fan as a fighter, but anyone who didn't think there'd be repercussions for trying to embarrass the commission is kidding themselves.

Very frustrating to sit and watch this guy get bad advice over and over again from his mgmt. team.

Reem is key piece for the HW division, while there are a decent number of WW contenders to face GSP.

Nick Diaz is out til february so the earliest he could fight that would even be comparable to the overeem situation is in March.  But he's not making nice with nsac instead suing them so they are not gonna give zuffa permission/assurance to promote his fight (if it's in neveada).

more than likely zuffa is gonna have to wait until his suspension is over and then book his fight outside of nevada in april or may.

Nick Diaz should main event Fox on april 20th against:

Nate Marquart

Johny Hendricks

or

Rory Macdonald (if he beats penn).

This isn't about right or wrong. this is about the assumption that the nsac and ufc can make towards Overeem actually showing up at his hearing and doing whats asked of him to ensure that he will be re-licensed as soon as he is elligible.

should anybody ( the ufc, nsac, diaz's fans) be confident that Diaz will actually take all of the steps to make sure he is elligible for re-instatement as soon as he is elligible. Who even knows if this is an nsac deal. Good chance that Dana and the UFC just don't trust the guy to even show up at his hearing for re-instatement.

Yep, it's kind of like getting upset because the UFC is promoting UFC 155 more than 156 ... of course it is, until 155 is over.

Reem is playing the game, and you have to if you want to do well in your work place doesn't matter where you world or what businesss, if you don't abide by the rules and you have to suck up your pride and do what people tell you, you'll move places instead of being mad and saying fuck this fuck that.

But fuck can't wait to see Diaz return! Hope he gets licensed. Phone Post

Some fans buy them for Collector's Value more than to actually wear.

Rightfully so too... Overeem was only busted for presumably doping... Nothing wrong with that.

Diaz on the other hand, he was smoking MARIJUANA! Think of the children for God's sakes! The Athletic Commission should ban any fighter that gets caught smoking marijuana for life.

Steroids on the other hand... No big deal. Promote Overeem all you want.

Its going to be Sonnen all over again.
Diaz suspension is over but still the NSAC will deny him a license.
So only a few states or abroad will be the only option, but will the UFC rub the NSAC the wrong way?
