Concerned about the long term health effects of blows to the head.

I see the look of concern on his face.

I would retire too, have you seen the Sandro KO? The KO he put on Sandoval was epic though. I always liked Denis, I remember reading an article about him in "09 before he was famous, after this article I was a fan.

Damn, that's a shame, he's always entertaining. I'm surprised he is going out after a loss, he is very capable of putting together a streak. Phone Post

WHAT!?

I was a huge fan of The Ninja Of Love.

Seriously bummed about this, Denis always brought it and was never in a boring fight. I'll always be a fan.

I remember him Rock Bottom of Mamalis. That KO was sick! Phone Post

Go YouTube his highlight reel knockouts and come back. Keywords suplex and elbows...

Lots of respect for nick in quitting when he wants and looking after his health. Phone Post

I never followed this guy, there are so many names in the UFC now I lose track, but I just watched his highlight reel on youtube and he looked like a beast :D Wish him good luck with whatever he wants to do.

this.sucks.

I can understand where he comes from with the Sub Concussive Blows - it happens to Rugby players too

I hope he gets a easy job doing some broadcast work on inside MMA or something like that cz its a shame to see fighters leave for good (Maybe do some pro wrasslin)

It's a shame his fight with Roland Delorme only aired on Facebook. That was one of the best one round fights I've ever seen.

I'm a PhD student in cognitive psychology, and am considering taking my first ammy fight in January. I too have read primary literature on concussions, and it is the sole source of my hesitation. The biggest problem, which Denis mentions, is the unpredictable, non-linear nature of concussive and subconcussive impacts. Ten punches could do nothing, and the 11th could do a relatively huge amount. At least I'm a jitz guy, so I don't take as much damage (hopefully).

Have to appreciate someone that has accomplished as much as he has, looked at the facts and made a decision that is best for himself. Best of luck to him in the next phase of his life, though with his mindset I don't think he'll need luck.

Bearded Collie Herds Orca - I'm a PhD student in cognitive psychology, and am considering taking my first ammy fight in January. Good post, I hope all goes well for you should you decide taking the fight.

I was extremely surprised more people had not posted on this thread. With that said, I think that his decision is justified, if you are hoping to get a concussion just for a definitive reason to leave the sport,it is time to go anyhow. He seems to have thought this out over a very long period, and made an informed choice that is right for him. Hope that he does well in his post fight life. He truly is a good example of the fact that this is not a sport of brutes and "just bleed" guys, while there are some, many of the fighters are well-educated and extremely intelligent individuals.

This made me sad.

I blame Delorme. Guys, we need to kill Delorme.
