Apparently not.

Now the shoe is on the other foot. Karma's debt demands this superfight.

HHH is right (about BJ's James Irvin).

But NC is also right (about BJ winning the WW title prior to GSP) and choosing to fight at WW himself.

Have to say that most people seem to overlook the fact that perhaps BJ and not Hendo may be the most successful fighter above his natural weight.

Its def arguable.

And BJ over Hughes the first time is one of the most overlooked upsets.

I assume the question was where is GSP's James Irvin?

BJ is a savage. He had also already fought gsp once before, taking the first round and doing all the damage in the fight. These scenarios are nothing alike.

GSP didn't call BJ out, it was the other way around.

But but GSP is an ectomorph and has trouble gaining/losing weight! As opposed to Anderson the Slug Silva!

GSP has the best boyfriends. The facts are this.

1) GSP claims to not want this fight because of the size difference

2) Whether called out or not, had no problem taking (and greasing for) a fight where the weight difference was starkly in his favor

Hypocracy.

Wanderlei had no problem Godzillaing thousands of screaming Japanese. But when the time came for him to fight someone bigger in Marc Hunt, Fujita and CroCop he took it with no hesitation.

Wand's karma debt is paid in full.

As others have said, these situations are nothing alike. BJ was a former WW champ for crying out loud. If GSP had previously fought Andy at MW, beaten Rich Franklin for the title, went to WW then moved back up to MW when Andy was champ and pushed for a title shot, then you have a point. And if GSP was moving to MW because he was not motivated enough to make WW anymore, too.

As it stands in reality, there is literally no point here. Phone Post

One other, better and more accurate thread would be: were Hughes (twice), GSP (twice), Fitch, Diaz too big to fight BJ?

These guys should all move up to 185 since they fought fellow WW BJ Penn.

BJ has fought a whos who at WW. Has GSP fought at least 6 fights against top MWs yet?? Phone Post

They should change the rules so that all these WW who are larger than BJ have to fight at MW. Karma.

If Marquart were in GSPs shoes, THEN you would have a point. Get it?? Phone Post

not really, last time i checked, it was gsp that came into the cage after george fought fitch and called out gsp

gsp was not running around campaigning for the bj fight, he was called out and penn was willing to come to 170 to make the fight happen

silva on the other hand is calling out a guy smaller than him for an easy payday and is unwilling to agree to any of gsp's camp's terms, if your calling out someone, go to their house house, dont expect him to come to yours - its pretty simple

i think your logic fails here OP

Ive said it before... most people clamoring for Andy v GSP are BJ fans traumatised by the beating and forced crow-feeding that GSP put upon their hero.

Forgeting of course that BJ requested that beating, then made his mommy star witness in a public excuse making session.

I enjoy watching BJ fight, but despite the praise he gets for fighting above his optimum weight, he is the poster-child for why a fighter should probably stick to his optimal weight.

In the UFC he has beaten exactly one fighter at WW. To his credit it was the great Mat Hughes and he snagged a title for it, but calling out GSP was a mistake and people need to accept that.

GSP didnt chase the fight with BJ, he simply fought whomever the UFC put in front of him at his chosen weight class.

if the fight took place at 162.5 (split down the middle) it would have been a more competitive fight.

Exactly, and those are the terms of this fight. Andy will be more drained, and GSP (who STILL needs to cut weight for 177.5) will be fresher.

No excuses are possible for this fight not happening. The crazy thing is I actually think GSP wins easily, but GSP doesn't agree I guess.
