Serious question.

16-9-2
Constant questions about motivation and problems with gassing in recent years
4-5-1 over his last ten fights

BJ was insane when he first broke into the UFC. Holding the title at two weight classes is an amazing accomplishment and fighting at WW at least the second time around might have hurt his legacy.

I would probably consider BJ an all time great but I have to say that his career overall has been a bit of a disappointment based on the true talent he has and how he started off. I have always gotten the feeling that BJ's heart was only in it about half the time and had it been all of the time he could have been so much more.

Yes. Look, I know Rory just beat him, but BJ is still a great fighter. Shame on the fans saying that a win over BJ is insignificant.

He's past his prime.

Questioning his greatness is fucking idiotic.

Just saying...

Yes, because at LW he's been a beast. And of those loses how many fights were at WW, and against guys like GSP x 2, Machida, Diaz, Rory.

No doubt he's one of the greatest ever.

ask randy........if you beat who he beat and hold 2 titles then yes. Dude fought his last 6 fights against bigger opponents because he gives 0 fucks (and reps small man syndrome haha) but yeah of course. His results have nose dived but he has done what many haven't abd couldn't and history will remember that

Yes, but I don't think he ever realized his true potential. His cardio failed him repeatedly and his ground game was not as great as advertised.

I joined here in 2012, I've been following MMA since the late 90's so save that crap.

I would have to say BJ is an all time great. I should have worded the question differently and asked if BJ's career has been a disappointment overall based on how he started and how much better he could have been.

I am a huge BJ fan and am just disappointed with how his last two fights have gone and how it's really looking like he's finished.

Yes. The only real reason his reputation has been eroded is his insistence on fighting guys much bigger than him.

Obviously Frankie Edgar proved to be his nemesis at 155lbs, but that aside he was a monster in that division.

All time great without a doubt in my opinion......but he's letting questions creep into the discussion by continuing to fight at 170. Bringing it on himself.

He and Randy don't have the records because IMO are all time greats. If you just go by records (this is an opinon thing) then probably not. Personally I look at who they fought, and overall accomplishments. They both get on my list. Phone Post

You somehow missed when he destroyed Takanori Gomi in his prime, then submitted a much larger and then unbeatable Matt Hughes at 160 lbs, then stuck his middle finger up at the UFC and fought in K-1, and beat Duane Ludwig.
