Georges St. Pierre has not been an underdog in any of his fights since his second bout with Matt Hughes, a match which took place in 2006 and ended in a TKO win for him. That's a stretch of 11 straight fights, and the trend shows no signs of letting up as long as he remains in his division.

In the early lines released on his UFC 158 fight with Nick Diaz, St-Pierre has been installed as a more than 4-to-1 favorite, with a -430 line on the gambling website 5Dimes.eu.

Diaz is a +310 underdog.

That's it? I would have guessed -1100 or so for GSP and +500 for Diaz

I wish they would have set Diaz at +209 just to be a smart ass. LOL

But in truth, I don't think it'll be that lopsided as the oddsmakers think...

Well, its not about what they think will happen in the fight, its about setting an opening line that will generate action Phone Post

I'm not much of a gambler but I see your point. So I'm guessing they start off with what they believe are the actual odds, then shift them a certain percentage to gain interest?

I must be old, I remember when boxing champions fought the best challenger every fight. Long before guys could come off a loss, and a year suspension for illegal stuff and get a money fight to go in and let the champion maul them for a few rounds. Fortunately Dana used the boxing model as "what not t do". So in the UFC we see the best fight the best 3 or 4 times a year. Challengers earn their title shots, champions fight the best, and you can't just run your mouth without backing it up and expect handouts.

If you agree with me please follow me on Twitter, I'm trying to get enough followers for a UFC title shot.

They start them usually close to what is realistic but a bit exaggerated so that people will place a lot of bets (thats how they make their money). The line moves based on how people bet-- like if a million people put money on diaz, he would become the favorite. It just reflects what the market thinks, not unlike stock prices. Phone Post

4:1 is about right. I just hope Nick can make it interesting. I predict a lot of angry desperation arm-flapping and talking though, followed by him saying he's going to boxing because it's not fair for Georges to be allowed to out-wrestle him.
