"I love what she did. I know I have the big ‘homophobe' persona and people think I'm some homophobe. I'm the furthest thing from it. i think its ridiculous its 2013 and the government tells two people they can't marry each other. Who is the government to tell two people who say they love each other they can't be married? It's ridiculous."

On Carmouche, who served as a Marine Corps sergeant before going into mixed martial arts and making her personal life public knowledge, White said "I applaud that she came out and that she's the first one. Good for her. I hope more do. It doesn't bother me one bit. Shouldn't bother anyone else either."

As for Rousey, who has made a reputation in part by trash-talking her opponents, she's taken a different approach to Carmouche.

"I like Liz," she said. "She's a Marine, I'm not going to be able to intimidate this girl. The prefight intimidation stuff won't work, I won't have that advantage I usually have over my competition. Because it's a first-time event, because the first time for women to fight on card, and she's the first openly gay fighter, it doesn't need to be any squabbling or argument. It's an extraordinarily positive thing, we don't need an argument to push it. It's a positive event and I don't mind there being no arguments. It sells itself. It's history."

If I saw one interview with Dana White I'd probably think he's a douche, but he really is one of the most likable guys in sports.

Still, he jumped the gun with Ronda vs. Carmouche (seriously?) headlining a PPV!! Over Machida vs Hendo no less!!

I dunno why people think Ronda Rousey is a trash-talker.

She's only done pre-fight trash talk with Tate, and the only other person she's talked shit about she hasn't even fought.

If they put a non-title fight above a title fight people would be bitching to.  Every title fight always headlines above non-titles.  Although, I think for a PPV it was probably a bad idea.  Or they could have done a 2-title card and had Rousey/Carmouche as the co-main if it would have really taken that to appease the MMA fans that get their sensitivities hurt by women headlining.

Every single time she fights people are gonna complain, the only time people wont complain about her main eventing a card is if the rest of the card is filled with TUF leftovers.

any other fights on the main card people will bitch about her being above proven fighters.

I didnt say she wants I'm saying thats what people say.

She hasnt had alot of fights, she is a chick, she is in a joke of a div with nobody to fight, putting her above legends and fighters who have been around years is disrespectful towards those fighters etc.

The way the UFC is handling this new division is weird to say the least. So besides the girls headlining 157, who else is in the woman's division in the UFC?

is it as weird as the way they handled introducing the 125lbers?

Much respect to Dana for coming out in support of gay rights in a country where nearly half believe that there is a supernatural overlord who says gay people are everything that is wrong with the world.

Not to mention the fact that the majority of MMA fans have that exact mindset.

Takes balls Dana. Good on ya.

Do you mean, with the easy to see line of thought that the smallest bantamweights were going to drop down? I don't see a similarity, the whole tournament format and all that.

So go ahead and name all the 125lbers in the UFC.

As soon as you do that, I'll list all the female fighters at 135 that the UFC has expressed interest in and we can compare!

.... fuckin dummy.

People bitch just to bitch. First of all being that it's the first woman's fight in UFC history it's going to get a ton of press and attention from all kinds of media. Secondly, Rhonda has already received mainstream attention and press from media other then mma, like ESPN, and their Magazine, etc, so that will help sell the PPV as well. Not to mention she's fighting the first openly gay fighter in the UFC! All of this combined plus big fights to back it up should mean the card should sell pretty well and that having the girls headline is the right choice. Title fights always headline the card it would be stupid and ignorant to not have this one because they are girls. Phone Post

"easy to see line of thought that the smallest bantamweights going to drop down".... who exactly has committed to that?

I'd be shocked if you could name 3 more names of guys who said they are dropping after the 4 guys who already competed in the tournament.

Meanwhile there is an entire division of women out there that are being signed by the UFC as we speak.

Or maybe you could list the women in the UFC's 135lbs division as it was in my original question. Expecting guys like Benavidez dropping down was clear as day, seeing the size disparity between him and the Cruz.

Just like if tomorrow the UFC decided to make a 230lbs division a bunch of current heavyweights would surely make the cut.

It's not the same situation of a bunch of fighters in the whole contractual mess that is Strikeforce on life support, Invicta and whatever else.

So your answer is to split the 135 lb division in two?

You clearly haven't thought this premise out.

It is exactly the same situation as the 125 lb division.

The 125 lb division has 6 fighters in it that we know of.

The womens 135 has 3 and they are looking to add to it from the Strikeforce roster which Zuffa already owns.

What outside rosters for 125 does Zuffa have rights over? None? That's right. They can either expect that fighters drop from 135 or sign outside fighters.

So as of now, Zuffa has more 135lb female fighters under contract than they do 125lb men.

12ers gonna 12.

Dana's support is the same as Obama's. Just a blatant PR stunt.
